This I wrote when in a particularly "I'm never falling in love again mood" obviously it didn't last long but long after the way I had described love in it reminded me of "Highlander" and how immortals in the show really suffered because of love:
Kingdom Overthrown
Shrill's the battle cry as the blood tints
the ground as far as the eye can see,
swords clashing as the battlements are thrown
down crushing my soldiers, loyal to the their Queen!
Oh Gods! What have I done .... if this is love,
how high is the cost!
Madness has me overtaken for who on Earth
could be so brazen as to tear these walls down?
The walls that had withstood centuries of siege,
weathering the storms that rattled my soul!
Now I am captured and made a slave....
Once proud and high-handed was I and
now I'm made to watch as these beasts
cruelly strip me of rank and title....
The walls have finally fallen...
The tears flow freely now...
I am taken...
Love has conquered me,
You have conquered me...
All my insecurities and all my fears
lay exposed to your conquering heart...
but that is what you wanted?
To see me broken and tamed... now you've had your fill.
Take what you will,
for will have I none
and this simple girl is no more.
Eros, far too harsh is the piercing of your bow
and I too frail to survive it.

This one was a rather dark contemplation of immortality:
Death Embraced
No breath, no motion, all thoughts cease.
No pain, no exposure just sweet peace.
Cannot ask for simpler pleasure, cannot beg
cannot plead...
Why on earth am I caught in the current,
unable to be freed?
A gift most honored, a timeless treasure...
What bitter lies they spun into their deceitful web.
Immortality,
eteranl life,
eternal beauty;
one can only dream...
But then the nightmare comes
and the decaying emotions
fade from lively passions to numb.
A thousand sunsets,
a hundred balls,
a million dishes,
ten thousand falls,
a broken heart that never heals,
a billion tears that never come,
is this what I wanted?
Is this what it is like, to taste ash
where once I tasted spice?
I ask you all to consider this
if you could live forever but never feel
a single emotion could you then embrace
Death when faced with an eternity of nothing?
