Recently several local and national news reports have reported that Swine and Asian Influenza is on the rise and reaching panaendemic levels world wide including here in the US. So far, 149 deaths have been reported in Mexico and the death toll is continuing to rise. Health officals are advising that unnecessary travel to Canada, Mexico and other foreign countries be avoided if at all possible. Health officals also feel that it might be a good idea to limit public contact by cutting down on trips to heavily populated areas such as grocery stores, restaurants, public parks, concerts, sporting events, night clubs ect.. or any other places of this nature until the Swine and Asian Flu is under control. If at all possible it may be a good idea to conduct business by using cell phones, skype calling, webcam conferencing whenever possible to cut down on the risk of exposer to both the Swine and the Asian Influenza.
Health officals also recomend wearing protective surgical masks in order to reduce the risk factor of the airborn viral influenza agent known as Swine Flu and Asian Flu. Swine Flu is characterized by coughs, high fevers, chills, sweats, aching joints, vomiting uncontrollably and dizzy spells if you are experiencing any of these symptoms seek help from your physican immediately and don't forget to wear your protective mask while seeking help from your physican. Swine flu has been spread among humans before - this is not the first time. There are some differences, though - the fact that this strain is a combination of several swine strains plus avian and human strains is new (at least from what we NOW know).
I hadn't heard that Canada was reporting cases. US yes, and US travel was questioned by some reports.
We can do some things without getting into panic mode.
1) don't come to school/work/anything if you are sick, (2) see a medical doctor right away as antivirals only work within the first 48 hours (also, a flu shot is not gonna help as this is a new strain), and (3) become informed and do not spread erroneous information (check out the cdc.gov site for the latest info).

Thanks for the research and info, folks. Eventhough we are in North Texas, my daughter is wearing the mask to college exams, just in case because we have the little squibble here at home!:)

This outbreak and how wide spread it is becoming, makes me think of the movie 12 Monkeys.

Scarpetta is right, a panic mode is the last thing that we need right now. My reason for putting out the information on Swine Flu is to inform everyone so that they can inform others. This strain of Swine Flu is more viralent then other strains of Influenza and don't worry Swine Flu can not be contracted from eating pork but is only contracted by airborne viral microscopic spore transmission. In otherwords, if you cough and spray the virus into the air and or if you cough into your hands and have an open cut or if you have coughed into your hands and they are covered in Swine Flu viral spores then you can transmit the virus to others.
The influenza known as Swine flu which is comprised of pig dna shares a Deoxyribonucleic Acid or DNA genetic similarity to human dna and humans also share similar pig gentic dna sequences. The genetic similarity is so close between both human and pig species that it is understandable why this genetic strain of pig influenza mutated and adopted a human host to infect.
The best pervention in this case is as I have mentioned in my first post and as health officals in national and local news reports have stated: limited contact in heavily populated areas, great hand washing asepsis techiques, seriously considering no travel to Mexico, and no unnecessary traveling outside of the US to Foreign countries, until these viruses are under
control.
If you believe that you have contracted the Influenza known as Swine Flu then contact your health care provider immediately and seek medical treatment.

The list of Swine Flu outbreaks keeps growing, but health officals are hopeful that they will get this influenza under control. There is hope a four year old boy who lives in Vera Cruze Mexico which is twelve miles from the epicenter, had contracted Swine survived it's effects and is doing well-NBC Televised News Report . Keep hope everyone and remember tomarrow is a brighter day.:)

Appeace: All across the country we are keeping our fingers crossed for those who have been sick and whom are afflicted with the Swine flu virus. America's hope is that hopefully there will be an end to this virus soon and our lives can return to normal. Speedy and safe recovery to all who have contracted Swine Flu.

Yes, and my sympathies to those families who have lost loved ones. We had a death recorded in Texas today of a 23 mth old from this illness. Im very scared for all young ones sakes and expecially my little squibble:(
:( I echo your sympathies for those dealing with this.
Appeace I too worry. That child was only a couple months younger than my baby Grace. Even if we had cases here the medical professionals wouldn't recognize it or report it. They are too inept.

I totally agree, Sam. My prayers to you and your countrymen, Pukkie.
However, I can understand the problem. Most folks who may show symptoms may not go to the Dr right away, thinking they just have the regular flu or a cold since the symptoms are the same.
By the time its discovered, everyone is already infected. Thats why I advised my daughter to go ahead and wear the mask eventhough we havent had a case in our county----Yet!

Had you heard about that poor farmer in Canada whose pigs got swine flu - and he gave it to them? He caught it from another human and sneezed in the barn before he knew what he had. How embarrassing! I heard that he and the pigs are all recovering nicely.

This too might be humorous but adds to the data of viral infection mutating. Could become less, or could become more but crossing from human to animal and back again. Not good.

Aw, Petta, I got no sleep last night, and I do not want any bad news about mutants. If it gets passed back as a new form of the avian virus, you have to promise me that it will be called Swine Flew. Now I am going to take a nap.

You may call it anything you like as long as they just 'fly over'.
No sleep? How was the nap?

We need to be diligent about staying away from anyone who is sick and washing hands often. I am just going to avoid crowds for a while and keeping my child away too.

I have a recent update on the Swine Flu-N1-H1 outbreak. Recently, there have been three cases reported in the county that I live in. While working outside today in my yard, I was approached by a little child on a bike while I was putting up a tent. I wondered what he was doing out of school because school isn't out for the summer yet, so I asked him about why he was out of school. The child on the bike sitting infront of me answered that he has been sick, he has had the flu and I asked him what type of flu he has had and he answered:"Swine Flu".
I guess that I have been exposed to Swine Flu, fortunately the young boy who had had this flu was passed the exposure stage and there should be no danger of me getting sick. The young boy who had contracted this strain of flu where I live is doing just fine and he looks pretty healthy. I hope that everyone else is doing well and that your week is going well.

I must add to this update. I read in the paper this weekend that Canada has mapped the swine flu strain and match it to cases from Mexico and Canada as being the same strain. Also, if you look closely at most of the deaths associated with the Swine Flu or H1N1 virus, there were underlying health problems that the swine flu enhanced thus bringing death. 1 already being sick with another virus then add H1N1 to it and not a good combination. Also take into consideration of people with Asthma and or other health issues. The body has an immune system, but it only can do so much before it will stop working. Similar to a computer virus, which if can have drastic affects on a system if left unchecked or compiled with other problems. The precautions already stated are wise. I usually take my child to the rec center to play with other kids twice a week. I haven't been taking him much of anywhere because I don't want him to possibly get sick and with me being pregnant as well. That and he already got sick with something, Not the Swine Flu, but something a few weeks ago so I am not taking any chances. We are very diligent about washing hands, but you can only do so much with a Toddler that loves putting things in his mouth.
