While VG, Steph, Bea etc., where sunning themselves in Italy I went on my first visit to Scotland and Glenfinnan - its taken me a while to do but I hope you like it! I did I had a wonderful time and throughly enjoyed my first visit - It was made even better as my "Tour Guide" knows every inch of all the locations of Highlander and knew all the places I wanted to visit - enjoy!

Great video,Scooby! your pictures are marvelous. It brought back all my memories of the Scotland HLWW tour.

The monument is where Adrian and Alex first joined our group.I see by his dog that Rudi is still the tour guide there. He is a great fellow and his dog almost "stole the show" from Adrian.Adrian jokingly said"Don't work with animals as they will upstage you".We climbed the hill behind the tour center for the view and Adrian, being a rascal, climbed up even higher off the path and we followed like lemmings...LOL...He said if he had known of this view he would have filmed from there and used it for the show.

The church, just across from the Prince's House Hotel was where Adrian gave us a talk about filming there.Father Roddy also spoke to us.What an eloquent man he is.He and I talked about where we believe the real Stone of Scone is located. My picture with Adrian was taken right outside the back door of the church, overlooking the Loch.Adrian even ran the bell outside for us.Did you stop at Colin the Candlemaker, right next to the church?

The Prince's House Hotel is a lovely place. The two boys gave our group a great concert there.I had a "wee dram" of Laphroig scotch as I listened to them.Their cat even came and curled up at my feet after a little petting time from me.

You did the same thing as I did at Castle Tioram I see and climbed all the way around it.Did you see the entry area and was it boarded up again? I think one of your pictures is where the kata was filmed. While we were there Adrian, being the bad boy again, took off the board and went inside,as did some of us.It was right in front of the entry that Adrian did his sword kata moves for us...sigh...poetry in motion. The Castle itself has such a feeling of history to it.I later found out that Robert the Bruce hid there during his fight for Scotland's independence from England.

Eilean Donan is a great castle even if it is "reconstructed" from the original and well worth the tour. It's setting is so picturesque.

Glen Coe is amazing, but we didn't get to see it during daylight as we were delayed by the snowstrom as we travelled to Glenfinnan. That was the only time it snowed or rained the week we were there, which the locals told us was a bit of a miracle for mid March.

Who was your "tour guide" ,if I may ask?

Rudy and Barney are not so much the tour gudes as the welcoming commitee LOL - I had been thinking about getting another dog for a while and I wanted a Labrador pup, playing with Barney made my mind up for me and yesterday (Sunday) I got him! He's gorgeous, and I've called him Charlie as it was the Bonnie Prince and Barney that helped me make my mind up while I was waiting for Harry Potter train on the top of the monument

Your memory must be playing tricks on you Cara - Colin the Candle is right oposite the Prince's Hotel and yes I did meet Colin, we had a nice chat and a cigarette outside the shop while he was making Citronella candles to keep the midges away. The church is on the otherside of the road but further down aways, but your right about Father Roddy he is a lovely man, I have to say I was aprehensive about meeting him, cos I'm not a religious person in the least but we had afternoon tea with him at his house and he made us Cheese & Tomato on Toast with Anchovies and we had a lovely chat BTW they where filming there again last week with Jack Dempsey (I think thats his name anyway) from Lost, He had to ride on horseback from the monument to the church, through a make believe graveyard and fall through a make believe back door on the church [/SIZE]

The Prince's House Hotel is a lovely place. The two boys gave our group a great concert there.I had a "wee dram" of Laphroig scotch as I listened to them.Their cat even came and curled up at my feet after a little petting time from me.

Alistair and Christopher are both grand boys with a cheeky side to them as well and their parents are so proud of them (as they should be) we had concerts on 2 nights, Guitar and Fiddle, Traditional Scottish music with a touch of Dire Straits

The tide was out while we were there so we didn't have to do much climbing just walked around it and had the place to ourselves for about an hour or so, and yes your right the picture was taken where AP did the kata

Eilean Donan is a great castle even if it is "reconstructed" from the original and well worth the tour. It's setting is so picturesque.

Some of the photo's where taken in the mountains above the castle, we drove up to see if we could get a better view from there and ended up climbing and climbing, up and up but it was great when we finally came back down LOL

Glen Coe is amazing, but we didn't get to see it during daylight as we were delayed by the snowstrom as we travelled to Glenfinnan. That was the only time it snowed or rained the week we were there, which the locals told us was a bit of a miracle for mid March.

We had lunch at Loch Lomond and then we stopped off at Glen Coe for quite awhile on the drive up there and it really was breath taking - my photo's dont do the place justice at all. We also went to Plockton for about 10 mins LOL Where we met Angus and his family wandering across the road, that was where the series Hamish MacBeth was filmed with Robert Carlisle

Who was your "tour guide" ,if I may ask?

My Tour Guide was the same as yours Cara LOL (ooooops no I dont mean AP LOL)but I couldn't have enjoyed it more even if he had been there!

Thanks everyone for the great comments - I really enjoyed my visit and those were just some of the photo's I have a lot more too - it was originally 10 mins long but youtube only allow less than 10 mins - BTW that beach at the end (the name escapes me) was also used in Local Hero starring Burt Lancaster in 1983 and the music you hear at the end was the theme tune by Mark Knopfler

The price was very reasonable and the food was fantastic, Keiron is a great chef, I dont really eat a lot of meat but the fish was excellent, Scottish Salmon, Pollock and Monk Fish all with fresh vegetables.

Scooby,
That was fantastic. The pictures were great and you picked the perfect music to go with them. I love Loreena McKennit. I have been to Scotland twice and it brought back all sorts of great memories. I haven't been to Glenfinnan yet but that is my next trip!!

Does that mean you liked the new slideshow (Glenfinnan Part 2) then Melony - Nah the Black Country is nowt like Ayres Rock although we do have a Council Estate called Alumwell Rock, no idea why the only rocks I've seen there are the ones thrown through the windows - should be called Rough Rock really! It's the kind of estate where you cant drive through less that 30mph or they will have your car on bricks before you get to the end of the street

Well I'll be giggered! Sue. Having your undercarriage whipped away at 30 MPH sounds thrilling.

Why don't you do what we do over here. Get them interested in sport! Swimming, cricket, tennis, surfing etc. But you already know how bloody good we are at that don't you. World Champs we are at everything.

Glenfinnan looks OK to me Sue. Maybe one day I'll come over there and vis.

I just checked Alumwell Rock on the net Sue. There is a college there! And that's about it. Sounds wonderful!

A college - at Alumwell Rock - you are joking! - oh you mean the open prison next to the abatoir

Ohhh! scary! so you have an open prison! Now listen Scoob! the whole of Australia is an OPEN PRISON!
From 1788 to 1823, the Colony of New South Wales was officially a penal colony comprised mainly of convicts, marines and the wives of the marines.

We don't like the word TRANSPORTATION over here! It's a bit like using the "F" word.

Western Australia was established in 1827 and proclaimed a British penal settlement in 1849 with the first convicts arriving in 1850.

While the vast majority of the convicts to Australia were English (70%), Irish (24%) or Scottish (5%), the convict population had a multicultural flavour. Some convicts had been sent from various British outposts such as India and Canada. There were also Maoris from New Zealand, Chinese from Hong Kong and slaves from the Caribbean.

Chances are possum that one or more of your ancestors were transported over here. We have some of the best crooks in the World in Aus! And quite a number of Highlander fans!

Now here's a convict with famous ancestry, Ned Kelly. I understand he's great grandson is in a UK rock band! Can't think of the name though!
