The swine flu maybe hasn't traveled to the Netherlands.

I haven't gotten the shot yet but when it becomes more available I'll get it. Right now only for children and other people at risk.

Get well soon Coolwater.

that is the new vaccine for the swine flu-
My granddaughter's school is giving them to thier students free of charge next week- that's one less worry- there are 4 kiddies in the house but only one of them is in school(she's 5) so she would be the most likely link to the germs of the world-

Poor Cool and Pinya!!
Get better soon!!!!

They´re planning a general vaccination in Germany but they have two "classes" of stuff-a first class one without any additional incredencials(sp?)for high ranking officials or soldiers and the other stuff with god knows what in it...So people are not really inclined to have any shots.Doctors get ampulles for 20 persons,to be mixed with another ampulle before using it and if there are not enough volunteers they can throw away the rest! The needles and so on are to be paid by the doctors themselves!!Its a real mess!!!

Thank you! That's very sweet of you, and you've cheered me right up!

The vaccine isn't widely available here yet for non-medical people, and I worry about folks like Sam, who have trouble with their lungs, because swine flu makes you cough so hard and so often. Pinya and I have been sick for five days now, and although we're still coughing and feverish, we're doing a lot better.

I had to laugh at the Center for Disease Control website. It has a chart that shows that only about 15% of people my age (I'm 56) get swine flu, but another chart that shows that of the people my age who do get it, about a third of them die of it!!!:eek::eek: Don't worry: I am a tough lady. ;) I suspect that the CDC finding is because people in that age group have to have some medical weakness to get it in the first place, and so they would be more susceptible to having a serious case.

I´m quite sure that´s the reason,Cool,so don´t worry!!
We pray for you and your beautiful girl!!

Get well soon, Cool and Pinya!:)
You are spot on about the explanation. Tho we made it thru the 1957 and 1975 outbreaks of swine flu, those of us who have developed lung or breathing problems over the years have a much harder time with the flu now.
Also, the kiddos who were not born before or during the last two outbreaks have absolutely no resistance to it, therefore an attack can be deadly.
I am very worried that the CDC is saying that the vaccine is going to be too late for most folks!:(

Me, too. I'm asthmatic, so I asked the doctors today if we still needed a swine flu shot, and how certain were they that H1N1 is really what we have? The answer is that if you've had swine flu, no, you don't need the vaccine. So, since we've already done the feeling rotten part, I hope we have it! :D At this point, the medical folk are worried enough about having too few doses that they gave me the test to see if it really is, for sure, no kidding, swine flu. If the test is positive, that's two more doses to give someone else - if I have it surely Pinya does, too, you see.

About the test: the quick, easy test turns out to be highly inaccurate, with up to 70% false negatives! That is, 70% of folks with swine flu would be told they had something else! So they're not using it. The accurate test gets results back in a few days, and stings the inside of your sinus like a tiny rug burn. We need a "pouty face" to show how sore my sinus was.

Oh--I can relate to the sore sinus thing. I had to take allergy injections for years when I was 18-28yrs old and when Id go in for a total checkup they would do the swab thing with the 20ft long cuetip!
Sore sinus for about a week in addition to a migraine--Bllllaaaaaahhhhh!

Yes, I would think anyone expecting and not at home most of the time should take it if they can. However, we still do not have any here even for health workers. Daughter took regular flu shot so still doing the mask, sanitizer, changing clothes thing.

and I use the sanitizing Clorox cloths at my local grocers and wash my hands constantly-avoid handshaking at ALL times  most of all I just stay away from people at all times-just better safe then sorry I guess-I avoid going anywhere unless it's really necessary.

Bad news:there is a new variation of the virus on the way and the current vaccination doesen´t work against it!!!!!

I´m having a migraine for days now,so I can feel with you.Get better soon!!!

:( You poor guys; headaches are the worst, especially migraines. May you have comfortable compresses, soft sounds, dim lights and a swift recovery!

brilliant, no! say it isn't so! We expect variations on viruses, but they're saying that this H1N1inoculation should work well for a good while. Folks who were exposed to the swine flus in the 1950s and 1970s seem to be immune to this new one... after almost a week of feeling rotten, can't I be smug and relax for a while?

Meanwhile, have fun in Berlin!

Something amazing happened today. Yesterday I called our doctor to find out whether we still need a swine flu shot, and he had me go get tested to make sure that what we had was really swine flu. Not much doubt, given that the symptoms were a complete match, but just to be absolutely sure that we had it before skipping the H1N1 flu shot.

We don't have it! In fact, we don't have any form of the flu! I'm glad we checked, but what the heck DO we have??? Anything that makes you feel that bad for that long, ought to be on a list!

My friends, thank you so much for your well wishes, but I think you misunderstood. I had those symptoms when I was taking allergy injections as a young person---not now.

I dont even have pre-menopause migraines anymore--THANK GOD!!

I was simply agreeing with Cool about having a sinus swab done and the pain it causes which is -Yuuuccckkkkkk!!:(

However, I can get sick really fast if it will make brilliant feel sorry enough for me to take me to Berlin with her for a change of scenery??????????;)

Good Grief! Cool, did the dr have any idea what you did have?? I dont know that I wouldnt have the test rerun. After all labs and drs do make mistakes and misread results-----wait---I probably wouldnt if I had to have another sinus swab!!!!

If it looks like a duck, and it coughs like a duck... All the symptoms matched, so I can see why he thought it was swine flu. It makes you wonder how much of this epidemic is NOT swine flu, though. Do they only count positive tests?

I suppose that it could still actually BE swine flu: there was one woman who was swab tested three times, and came up negative each time. It wasn't until after she died that a culture came up positive for H1N1. Hey, I'm getting better, so let's just forget about it, OK?

Sorry you have been ill Cool. I can relate. A month and a half ago I too was 'too sick to go to the Dr'! Calling in a requirement I was told! A moment of what is this finally got me in to urgent care and all the tests including IV as I was pretty dehydrated four days from onset. Three weeks to feel better when tests showed nada!

So I sympathize and agree. "Anything that makes you feel that bad for that long, ought to be on a list."

I don't know what I had, and neither does the Dr. but those medical tests sure were spendy!

Get better, stay on the liquids!

Don't you hate not having something?? :D

Oh, but, dehydration, that's a serious business. That can kill you, if not directly, then by making you too loopy to care for yourself. Big trouble on top of the original illness.

Were you able to find someone to drive you to urgent care, at least? I ended up at urgent care the other day, too, but it was because all the docs at our clinic were dealing with so much virus that they were all already double booked. And the UC doc was really hustling!

House calls were a good idea, and so were traveling nurses. How are you supposed to get to the doctor when you're very sick or very old? Our doc has just moved clear across town, and we're switching to a physician at a clinic 5 minutes from our house. And it has its own urgent care, an it's own lab. Let's hope he's as good a physician as he is rumored to be.

Take good care of yourself, Petta.

Well--its happened! We found out yesterday that one of my daughter's classmates has the swine flu! Yup, she got tested and reported it to the teacher. Although my daughter did not have lab with the infected student, they were in the lecture hall together.
We are just hoping that she was sitting far enough away that my daughter does not contract it. She has already infected my little squibble and all the rest of us if she, does indeed, have it.
Still cannot get vaccine here:mad:

Brr! I hope the kid wasn't contagious when she was sitting next to your daughter, peace! If she wasn't running a fever or coughing or sneezing, your daughter, the squib an you may not have been exposed.

I was lucky yesterday. Almost 80 doses came to campus, and were offered "first come first served" to anyone with with a "vulnerability." My asthmatic lungs went next door and got us inoculated. I've never been grateful for asthma before, but if swine flu is worse than the bug we had last week, I don't want it.

Lucky you! Im glad you got to be vaccinated, especially since you have breathing problems.:)
Yeah--Dallas got some today but they went like hot cakes and we are further north than Dallas--still none here even for medical workers!:(
We can only pray that the hand sanitizing and masks will work:eek:
