Highlander: Amanda vs Rebecca

I have a question. Why would Duncan have picked Amanda rather than Rebecca? He met them both at the same time, Amanda stole from him, so why get involved with her? Rebecca would have been a better match having more in common with Duncan. What does that say about Duncan? Of course, he was still rather naive and opposites do attract (so they say). What do you all think?

Maybe it's because Amanda will do anything, you never know what she's going to do next. Duncan does enjoy letting go once in a while and Amanda allows him to go to his wild side.

At the time of their first meeting, Rebecca seemed more serious. Amanda seemed more saucy, daring, playful, teasing; which, I think Duncan is more attracted to, because it does keep life interesting: never knowing what will happen next. When you are immortal, I would think one would take all life's pleasures to their full extent. Make the most of every situation, laugh, and play.......having fun.......laughter and play makes for a great day........

Well it was a tv show. Sexy and saucy women make for an interesting show so Amanda became the fun girl for Duncan. She made us all laugh and envy her moments with Duncan.

Rebecca was a wonderful person and more of a spinster. I have nothing against that because I was one. Till one day I met a man, like Rebecca did, who wanted more than fun in the relationship. But which woman provided the exciting storyline? Of course, it was Amanda!

I guess I don't see it as Duncan picking Amanda over Rebecca. And actually, given the look on both Amanda and Rebecca's face as they go off together, I always figured they drug him off for a little menage a trois.

I don't really think we saw enough of Rebecca to know whether or not she and Duncan ever had a fling. I really don't think Duncan and Rebecca had a lot in common when they first met. Duncan was much wilder, naive and immature when he was younger. Rebecca was much older and seemed much more serious. Although certainly Duncan's physical appearance could make up for other shortcomings :D Amanda probably appealed to his wilder side to start with and she is a lot of fun. And then, from the look of things, he kept running into Amanda during his travels.

Interestingly, when I thought about this, I think I could see present day Duncan (of the series timeline, not post Endgame/The Source) and Rebecca having an affair (if they both weren't involved with others at the time).

I had the same thought Tovie about the two in the present being together. That was why I asked the question. At her funeral Duncan said he would miss her so he must have had some contact with her over the years. So I guess if something was going to happen between them it would have. Actually since Amanda kissed him on their first meeting, I suppose Rebecca just faded into the background.

Now who hasn't had their share of "bad habit" relationships, i can only imagine some of the guys I might have let hang around longer if time were no object and I wasn't worried about offspring!!

Amanda may have had questionable morals but I'm sure they had fun, he really didn't pick her anyway, it's not like she stayed around him from the time they met until we see them interacting and even within the show they go in & out of each other's lives, I mean there was Tessa, Dr Ann and a host of others too.

Being a natural red-head myself, I thing I might have to take offense at that. Are you saying "reds" aren't as much fun? Men, honestly!!!

i really didn't like her at first - when Tessa was alive and Amanda was flirting with Duncan. but she kinda grew on me over the seasons.
i never saw her as a great romance with him - even tho i still remember him telling her "you know, i really do love you, Amanda." i was like - WHAT?!
Duncan obviously wasn't afraid of commitment - Tessa, Anne and all the other women we saw in flashbacks where he was in a commited relationship - but i think he cared for and enjoyed Amanda while realizing she wasn't that kind of woman. i don't think she could've stayed put for him no matter how much she cared about him - and i did feel she really cared.
as far as Rebecca - i don't remember her, but i think i'm getting ready to "meet" her. i'm on the second season dvds - and i think Rebecca is in the next episode.

of all the women Duncan "had", Dr. Ann is the one I dislike the most. Also somebody once told me that true mates usally look alike, Amanda and Duncan look good together, as for red heads... well Duncans first love, Kate.. the one in homeland, I'm not sure what her name was, she was a firery red head, jumped off a cliff did'nt she, or fell, anyways mabe he swore off redheads at that point, or mabe rebecca reminded him of the other. :cool:
