I didn't see this thread anywhere in the archives. My apologies if I missed it. I thought I'd start a new thread for it as we're talking about it in "The Void" thread. Warning of spoilers within:
When I saw it the first time years ago I went 'huh?'. I watched it twice. Then I cheered when the video store stopped renting it out because I can't leave it alone and if they continued to carry it, I'd spend a fortune renting it again and again. But, I've had years to think about it before watching it again a few weeks ago. It was my interpretation that people have a set time to die (No matter what our hot mortician thinks) and if something happens where they don't, then it's like a pebble in the water where gradually things start really getting screwed up around the person who isn't supposed to exist (Alison). Anything from madness to death. As for the plane crashing into Brady's living room and the laundormat getting all trashed again, I just assumed it was the past converging (Hey, I used the title...:D ) with the present so someone can 'get it right' this time.
I'm still not sure why the guy who saved her didn't go all screwy in the head, but, my theory on that is that he was simply at 'ground zero' and her existence didn't effect him like it did everyone else.
Nobody else in my house bothered to figure it out for themselves. They all just took my word for it and refer to it as the 'plane crash' movie. Personally, I think 'seriously screwed in the head' or 'I can't believe I watched this twice' would work as well. Alarming as it is, this is actually one of my favorite Adrian movies now.
Any other theories?
~Heather
yeah, okay, but was'nt Brady taking pictures of the plane in the very begining, and I don't recall the plane crashing into his pad, but rather the laundrymat, and why the heck is he facinated with death pictures? And why would he be taking pics, in the beginning unless he was on the plane? Or was he in the laundrymat? Man I feel like a nut, and in the end Brady is blubbering like a lunatic, is the man alive or dead. AND what is up with the weird sex, what point did that play, (other then fan enjoyment) ha ha! I DO AGREE with your opionion, I guess I don't understand how his character fit in, and I still don't know who was suppose to be dead, only the girl, and yet in some weird way Adrian's character seems to know that they were all suppose to be dead, and thats what makes him crazy in the end, ya know the encoherant babble.
 I haven't seen this one. Sounds like my kind of movie!! I have so got to update my collection. So the Void kinda comes off like the Final Destination movies??? Makes me wonder if maybe that's where they got the idea from as well as the Sandra Bullock version of Premonition. HHMMM??

Actually, I think Sandra Bullock's movie, "Premonition", came out after this one. Didn't that one just come out this past year (Or the year before)? I didn't see it, so I didn't pay attention to the release date.
Hcla, you have a ton of questions. *haha* Brady is fascinated with death. My own little theory is that he probably got this fascination from the plane crash at the beginning, but, that's just me bringing a back-story into it all. That's also why I believe he was going on about everyone being dead during his crazy bantering. Like he was remembering or something. But, then there's Alison's ex who's also doing the same crazy banter. Maybe everyone who goes crazy has the same 'vision' (Save the brunette chic who just goes on about being God). The part that I'm still wondering about is the guy friend who ends up wandering in the sand for eternity after the film is over.
You don't remember the plane wing coming in through his wall while Brady was grabbing Alison and shaking her demanding to know what the hell was going on after he caught her rumaging through his dead portfolio?
~Heather
I am going to have to rewatch this one. It has been too long to remember certain parts in order to fully discuss. It really is one of those movies that makes one question and wonder.

I picked this up on vhs really cheap. I sort of watched it when I recorded it to my computer to put to dvd format. :D Yes, I'm a bit of a nerd. The movie seemed weird, but one day, I will have to watch it before it gets buried in my movie collection.
okay, so I'm gonna rent this again today, and see if I can grasp it.

If I remember correctly, Adrian had stated that the movie was to show what happens when parallel universes get crossed. He also said that alot of the movie got cut which broke the flow of the movie and left alot of questions unanswered. Having seen it, I would have to agree. Why the guy who saved her wasn't affected, maybe because he was the one who screwed up things in the first place. The kinky sex with Adrian's character was her personality in the other universe, something very foreign to her which I think is why she was so embarassed and freaked out the next day. The people she seemed to be close to as these universes' crossed were the ones who went crazy or died. I have no explanation for the guy wandering on the delta. Maybe he physically crossed into the other universe? I don't think this one will ever have a cut and dried explanation. Maybe it was meant to be left up to each viewer. Oh well, it was another opportunity to see Adrian play a new and completely different character. That's always a plus.

I saw this movie only once a long time ago. I cannot find ANY of his movies in the stores, except the ones I already have. So, I will go from memory here and say that I DID seem fascinated by the sex scenes but can't recall the kinky part, just some scene where she looks through a door at his character and a woman.....then later the girl has his character tied to a bed....I won't say anymore on that but, I just know it was totally weird and it was all goofy crazy in the end, babbeling and stumbling around while the girl lay on the ground amid wreckage and the burning laundrymat.....
correct so far or am I way off?
I liked the movie, just didn't really understand it too much. Was really into certain scenes and and watching Adrian's character mostly.

Oh, wow. Why didn't I think of that? Probably because those scenes that hinted about paraellel universes were cut out of the movie. *haha*
Unless you count the black dude who knocks cups up into the air without touching them. I just figured he was in it to confuse the crap out of me. :D
Okay, so we can argue about the movie that didn't happen. The one with parellel universes. Why is it that a parellel universe gets brought in because a chic wouldn't die when she was supposed to? I mean, it happened in THIS universe (Or whatever universe it was in the movie), so why would it effect another parellel universe?
Now, I'm a huge 'Doctor Who' fanatic, so the answer won't really confuse me. Let's talk paradoxes for a second. Now, when Rose's dad didn't bite it when he was supposed to in Season One of the new series those flying things just went around eating everyone. No mention of a parellel universe crashing into places. That didn't happen until the end of Season Two when the Cybermen came through from "Pete's World" on the heels of the Daleks who were just living in the Void between parellel universes. See, there was a crack that kept growing because of the Daleks little Void Ship. Besides, everyone knows that the temperature goes up when Parellel universes collide *She says with straight face*. How come the temperature didn't go up in "Premonition"? Huh? Huh? I mean, the Time Lords invented this stuff, so it must be true for ALL works of fiction in media. *Stomps foot*

I want to see this one so badly but Blockbuster doesn't have it and it has been at the top of my Netflix Queue for 6 months and I guess whoever had it last has never turned it back in because they keep skipping it. And I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

It is also available on Amazon. If you buy from the private sellers, you can usually get a DVD pretty reasonable. That's where I got mine.

That's where I got mine too. An Amazon private seller...Inetvideo, I think it was. You can go to their website at http://www.inetvideo.com/index.cfm . Do a search for "Adrian Paul" and voila! Beware that since this is a Canadian site, there will be different titles available to the same movie. The shipping from this place is much faster than from Amazon.ca , by the way. I got my stuff (I think I got "The Void" as well from them) in less than a week. If you go through Amazon.com and purchase from them as an independent seller, they'll automatically make you an account on their site. Their prices are extremely cheap and shipping isn't that bad. It would be just as easy, I think, to go to their site and sign up if you don't want to go scouring for them on Amazon.com. As for me, I'm still trying to figure out what "Graveyard Story" is. Anyone know?

Oh, I just have the one DVD (Well, there's two versions on it). I also had 'The Breed' from back before I became this non-obsessive (Cough, cough) Adrian fan. It was a vampire flick and if it was vampire, I owned it. I also owned the first two seasons of Highlander the Series. In August I purchased the remaining four seasons of Highlander as a birthday gift to myself. I'd seen most of the eps before in reruns save for Season Six where I'd just sort of doze off and switch the channel (Now I fast forward and skip :D ). Anyways, all of this took me a few months to re-watch (With the extras, of course) and in the meantime I'd rent other movies on my nifty free-moviepass at my video store. Some I liked, others I didn't. The ones I liked ended up in my video library, eventually.
In November I purchased (Takes deep breath and wonders if I should actually admit this):
~The Fifth Season of "Charmed" just for one freakin' episode *Giggles* (Eh, I liked Charmed...Really. Just, er, don't ask me what character is actually Piper :p ). One day I'll actually watch the whole season.
~Masque of the Red Death (Blind Leap on this one)
~Nemesis Game (Seen it before when it first came out on video)
~The Void (Took a blind leap on this one)
~Premonition (Seen before back when the video store actually carried it many moons ago)
~Code Hunter (I love this movie...Bad acting and all :D )
~Seance (Took a leap)
~Tides of War (Seen it before)
In December I purchased:
~Dead Men Can't Dance (Still watching it, actually)
~Cover Girl Murders (Saw it so long ago I can't remember anything other than a bunch of models fake their deaths)
~Love Potion No. 9 (Okay, who hasn't seen this? It's Sandra!)
~Merlin the Return (Sooo taking a leap on this one)
Did you see that? I had to explain why I purchased each thing. Is that denial or what? *Mumbles* I still have some on reserve at Amazon. You'd think I was rich or something (NOT). But, it's my nature to not rest until I have everything. Same thing with doing something I need or want to do.

My take on the movie was that Brady was a little too friendly with things that are dead--as in he liked taking pictures of the dead people--apparently the female variety--that he worked with--I personally think he wasn't taking pictures of the plane crash so much as he was taking picture of the dead females on the plane....
Altogether, Convergence was a freaky sorta movie--and it was rather addictive--which considering the content kinda gives me the creeps....about myself for liking it....

Amazon.com is your best bet for any of those videos. Delivery speed varies, but, this week, the turn-a-round time was extremely fast. I got "Dead Men Can't Dance" the day after I ordered it (Independent Amazon seller) and I got "Merlin" and "Love Potion No. 9" two days after I order it. The longest I have ever had to wait for a movie from Amazon was about five days. Amazon.ca takes FOREVER for "Seance", by the way. Let me see, inetvideo.com is pretty fast too (About three to five days depending on when you place your order and that's remarkable considering they are in Canada). I'm still waiting for "Cover Girl Murders" (I ordered at the same time as LP#9, Merlin, and DMCD), but, that was from an Amazon independent seller. I should get it by tomorrow (As it supposedly shipped on the fifth). Did I mention they're all quite cheap? I spent a whopping 3 dollars for "Dead Men Can't Dance". I know, I know. Crazy, huh? Some of the other movies (In which I haven't gotten yet) are quite expensive for me at the moment, but, they're also on Amazon. "Dance Wars", for example...My gosh. Do I really want to pay this much for a movie that gets not-so-flattering reviews? I haven't gotten "Little Chicago" either. But, I'm not really into purchasing cameo movies at this time. Oh, and "Charmed" you should be able to get at Borders or any other place they sell season television shows. So, there's one you can go right down to the store to buy. You'll pay a fortune for it, but, you'll have it today. :D
*Notices thread moving WAY OFF topic* Okay, er, back to "Premonition". Why do you think the video stores stopped renting it out? It was very easy to get a few years ago.

Thanks MeridianXO;
I will certainly look into Amazon.com now that my patience isn't what it used to be. (My brother used to tell me when I was a teenager and young adult, that I had the patience of a Saint.) I agree.
But, now? No way.Patience is at its' end with me lately. When I want something I want it NOW....if I don't get it soon, I will be as a pinball, darting here and there looking and making phone calls trying to find what it is i am looking for......If I don't find it by the end of the day, I tell myself I will find it tomorrow. I get aplan together and make my self believe it so It's like fooling oneself into believing it will be done and soon or else........whew, long winded...even for me..
I saw this one many moons ago and wish to see it again soon so I can join in on the conversations about these movies......:p

Okay just watched it. In the beginning was Brady a coroner then. I thought that he was checking for people who was alive. But why did he go crazy at the end along with her friend and Dean? Why did that guy see his family in that apartment and end up on that beach?

Here are some of Adrian's memories of filming "Premonition".
When I first received the script for "Premonition", I thought it was a pretty good idea. I had wanted to play a different character and this guy certainly could be different. My take on Brady was that he was a very quiet guy who had had something happen to him early on in his life that made him what he was today - a coroner who enjoyed his job a little too much. If you like, he was bordering on necrophilia. The story, however, never showed why he became fascinated with death. So I talked to director Gavin Wilding about some of my ideas about making Brady this off-center guy who, apart from his strange obsession, was otherwise perfectly normal. Mmmmhhh! I asked Gavin if perhaps the crash from those many years ago was when Brady saw death for the first time, which wasn't in the script so far. It would tie in the reason why Ally (played by Cynthia Preston) was coming into contact with the people who were at the crash site, people whose lives she had changed. He liked it and put the scene at the end of the movie showing Brady sifting through parts of the wreakage. However, I think most people missed it because enough was not made of the fact. When I saw the final cut, most of Brady's strange behavior had been cut out of the movie. I wasn't sure if it was to get the movie a decent rating or because Gavin felt it didn't fit. For me, however, I felt some of the story was missing.
When shooting started I was quite excited to work on a small-budget independent that had an edge to it. It was a short production of only three and a half weeks. I had been used to this kind of schedule during "Highlander", but this was a different entity. I was also looking forward to working with Cynthia, whom I had heard good thing about and veteran Christoper Lloyd, whom I had watched in numerous films and television show. I knew when I arrived in Vancouver that I wouldn't have the luxuries I had been given on "Highlander". My trailer was smaller, the production offices felt as if they were just thrown together and the sets weren't as spectacular as the ones we created weekly on the series. But I was happy to be there, happy to be doing something different. If anything, I would be able to show a different side of my work. Working with Cynthia, I realized she was open to exploring the relationship between the characters, except she had a lot more to do than I did. I was lucky to not be the lead since it meant I didn't have to worry about 60 different things, only 30 of them.
I had always liked shooting in Vancouver. After all, I had spent five great years there filming "Highlander", so I knew a lot of crew members. Actually there were a few on this production who had also worked on the series. Rachel Hayward, who played T.K., had acted in two "Highlander" episodes so I felt at home. Yet strangely enough I wasn't Duncan MacLeod. Far from it. Brady was not a person who took the bull by the horns. There was also an element missing that had been one of MacLeod's diet staples, the action scenes. No fighting, no running through parking lots, no jumping off tall buildings and certainly no beheading someone if you didn't like their point of view. I was happy to have them missing. It allowed me to spend time figuring out Brady's idiosyncrasies.
The first day on the set I went to see Brady's apartment. It turned out to be what I thought it should look like. Stark and clean. Almost clinical, like the inside of a morgue. I asked for a couple of things which I would be able to utilize during the scenes, a radio, a drawer where I hid most of the things which I felt should be in Brady's room, which was his sanctuary. Once you get into an environment that is supposed to be where you live, then you have to know how you live in that space.
The first actual scene I shot was a scene in the morgue. The coincidence was that I had shot at the some place during one of the episodes for "Highlander", just in a different building. It was almost like coming home. (That's a scary thought.) Since the morgue was part of Brady's everday life, I figured his habits were like anybody else's in their normal working environment. For example, eating a sandwich just after doing an autopsy was nothing abnormal for Brady, just as long as he used his gloves. Gavin thought it was a good idea, so as you can see we used it in the movie.
Since I had known about the movie only three weeks prior to shooting, I hadn't had a lot of time to explore the character. Improvisation can sometimes be alot of fun and Gavin and I added a few things just prior to shooting. This is not always optimal, but sometimes necessary. In one scene that we shot that day, which was eventually taken out of the final cut, Brady looks at a corpse, strokes its face and then kisses it on the forehead. Kinda creepy. But all in all, Brady didn't see anything wrong in what he did. He certainly wasn't intimate with the bodies he examined, but just mesmerized with the beauty of death, which is something he says to Ally. He as a little ashamed of his secret desire, not knowing himself why he felt this way. But to me it was a perfect reason why he liked to keep to himself.
The first day passed pretty smoothly and it wasn't until a couple days later that I went back to work. In the meantime, I continued developing the aspects of Brady's character, which by then I understood came from his fascination with death. This produced a couple character traits, one of which was sex. In talking to Gavin, I mentioned to him that I thought that Brady's way of lovemaking was very specific. I believe he was not that experienced where women were concerned. When Ally's friend T.K. seduces him, not only does he try to keep her quiet because Ally may hear, but also because of his limited experience in making love to an animated body. Ally invariably discovers them and a strange relationship ensues.
The lovemaking scene between Ally and Brady was also different. First, it was Ally who was the instigator. Brady had been drawn to Ally for a reason he himself couldn't fathom. So when he came home, her strange and dominant behavior made him acquiesce without having the power to stop himself. That their relationship would be torn apart the very next morning is not what Brady expected, even though the lovemaking had been strange and Ally's behavior, eating from the kitchen floor, bizarre. But what was "bizarre" in Brady's world? After all, since the plane crash 20 years before, his life had definitely not been normal. So this left the question of "what would their love-making be like?" The idea of using a razor was something I came up with. Maybe you're thinking that I was transforming into the character? Well, maybe, but if the truth be known it came from a fictional book I had read just a couple of months before. The Japanese-influenced character finds lovemaking heightened with the danger of a sharp implement during the pleasure of such an intimate moment. Since we were dealing with such a stange topic, it seemed normal to have the lovemaking also be strange. Gavin liked the idea, as did Cynthia and so we agreed on making this scene very bizarre rather than the normal torrid sex scene.
The atmosphere on set was still playful even though we were dealing with a relatively morbid subject. If I remember correctly, Cynthia was being traumatized for most of the film. Most of the images I have of her were with tears streaming down her face, bloodsoaked or scared about what was happening to her. The rest of us were just a watered-down version of that. But it didn't stop us from trying to lighten the mood on the appropriate days by playing practical jokes while we were doing the proverbial "hurry up and wait" scenario. One day in particular, one of the crew decided to dress up in his rain suit. Not that that was strange since the weather had taken a turn for the worse. What made it fun was his impersonation of a condom. In fact, playing is what acting is about. It's about being a kid again in a different way.
The days passed quickly in the beauty of the Vancouver landscape and before we knew it, the film was over. It was only three weeks of shooting and I realized that I had not actually had a scene with Christopher Lloyd. Well, that is to say our characters were in the same scene a couple of times, but we really never said two words to each other. Perhaps their destinies were also strangely intertwined since both had been at the crash site so long ago. This, along with the involvement of the other characters and why strange things happened to them, was never explained. Brady's life, as were the others, was being guided because of what he had been witness to so many years before. When Ally came into his space, it caused a disruption in time. Piece by piece, everyone was torn apart and, like Brady, eventually reduced to blithering idiots.

"Premonition" continued.....
To me, "Premonition" was about parallel universes. It was about what would happen when lines of communication between the two worlds crossed. After all, time is only relative to the space you exist in. That is one of the reasons I thought it could be very intriguing if it was executed correctly. The bizarre happenings during the movie would hopefully lead the audience in one direction, whereas in reality the movie was leading them in another. On a human level, the relationship Brady thought he had with Ally was one of being the lilted lover. Brady had never opened himself up to anyone before and when he finally did, he was immediately shot down. So he goes back to the only thing he knows, looking at the beauty of death. Someone once asked me why does he have pictures of T.K. in the drawer? I believe it was because not only did Brady enjoy seeing the quiet mask of death, but enjoyed the serenity it gave him. You see, for me Brady realized that so many things in life bring pain, that sometimes the only thing that brings us peace is death. This is perhaps a morbid way of looking at life, but this was Brady's way.
You may be saying to yourself, "I've seen the movie and I didn't get that." To tell the truth, when I saw the final cut, neither did I. I realized that by cutting some of Brady's idiosyncrasies, it negated the reasons why he was in the movie at all. Making a movie is a complex animal. There are so many factors that contribute to making a good film. It is very much like creating a painting. It the colors are not right, if they are laid in too heavily, if the painter doesn't have the sensitivity or the imagination to portray the images he has, then the painting is worthless. Not that the film was totally worthless, but in my opinion it was not paced correctly and some of the important elements were missing. Even though it didn't turn out to be the best movie I ever did, I still learned a few things while shooting. Nothing should ever be thought of as a waste of time. It's part of life. The choices we make is the path we set for ourselves, so we can't blame anyone else if they don't turn out the way we expected.
Peace,
Adrian

I had never read Adrian's memories of filming Premonition Barney. Thanks very much for posting this. Premonition is a very strange movie and even Adrian viewed the final cut with some confusion so it wasn't just me who didn't get it! LOL Sadly it appears that the editing of this film is the reason for that confusion. It's another one that you have to watch a few times before you can begin to understand what exactly is going on with the characters and relationships and how they all fit and even then, there are a lot of questions left unanswered.

You can get just about all of Adrian's movies on amazon.com, I have most of his movies allready.
When I saw this movie the first time I had no idea what it was about. It took several times watching "Premonition" before I could get even some of the movie. I figured it was surrounding Ally and anyone that came in contact with her was efected in one way or another. She wasn't supposed to live and her past was intersecting with her present. So people either went crazy or died around her. The character that tossed the cup in the air was talking about the balance of things and the energy lines of the earth. When the energy lines meet causing wierd and crazy things to happen: Brady's place exploding all over the place, his door blowing up in Ally's face, Ally's double doing to her the same thing she does to Brady when he comes through the door, and of course the planes wing coming through the wall. I'll probably watch it again and still feel alot of it is missing. Brady was neurotic and had major relationship problems with women, getting close scared him.
