View Full Version : Dark Chocolate?

I just watched the latest renovation show (The ep that Adrian isn't in) and read a rough translation of it. Anyways, the translation says that Alex mentions that Adrian's bad habit is dark chocolate. How he eats healthy and excercises, but, he eats dark chocolate. I'm a bit confused by this.

Since when is Dark Chocolate bad for you?

Dark Chocolate (NOT Milk chocolate just so nobody gets confused and chocolate happy with this news) has been proven to lower cholesterol and is filled with antioxidants which fight heart disease among other things (As long as you don't drink milk with it, which negates the benefits of dark chocolate). Health freaks eat it all the time, but, they do it in moderation. Some of them cut out other treats they might want to have instead.

Since my dad doesn't drink, his doctor told him to eat dark chocolate and blue berries (As opposed to drinking red wine). He's sufferred heart attacks in the past.

If this is the worst bad habit Adrian has, and he thinks it's a bad habit, he REALLY needs to start drinking coffee or something to truly get into that bad habit mind frame. :p

Heck, he can borrow some of my bad habits as long as he promises to give them back when he's done. ;)

I also love dark chocolate, the darker, the better. And, it's my worst sin, as I call it, since I don't drink or smoke, eat no white pasta, bread, rice or red meat.

I just read an article that said that eating chocolate provides an emotional uplift due to its ability to elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, two chemicals responsible for regulating mood and behavior. Maybe, that's why I feel so happy when I bite into that first piece of sinfully dark chocolate. ;)

I believe too much dark chocolate isn't good for you due to the high saturated fat content in most brands, even the ones who claim to be 65% dark or higher. I know because I'm a notorious label reader. But indulging once in awhile as a treat can only be good for a person's soul. :)

I believe I once read somewhere that Adrian liked Nutella, a hazelnut spread made with skim milk and cocoa. And it does make a mean bagel spread, along with chunky natural peanut butter. :D

Oh, don't get me started on 'Nutella'. *haha* I breathed that stuff all through High School. I finally had to ween myself off of it due to blood sugar problems. :(

This is also the reason I don't eat chocolate. I mean, have you actually TRIED that sugar free stuff?

Nope, can't do the sugar free. It messes with my head in wierd ways with headaches you wouldn't believe. I use honey and sugar in the raw in my tea. A hot cup of peppermint or chai tea at night is a wonderful way to relax and wind down. :)

:p You know I don't think anyone really knows for sure about chocolate. I mean that you hear so many conflicting things about it. It's like apples. They tell you all these benefits to eating apples then you read that the citric acid in apples eats the enamel off your teeth. Now it's kinda scary to me that I had been eating something potent enough to eat up tooth enamel. OK back to chocolate... some of you know that I have medical probs concerning my liver (and nope it ain't from too much sex or booze. In fact I might have enjoyed both quite a bit more if I hadn't been trying to avoid liver probs.). Anyway when the doctor gave me a list of foods that I am supposed to avoid at all costs...Guess what was at the top?? ALL chocolate, all types of nuts, all alcoholic beverages (including wine), coffee (unless it's decaf), caffienated drinks, and TYLENOL!!!
OK so I'm already a confused person so can you imagine my reaction to that list?? :D

I'm a chocaholic, sodaholic, KFC honey bar-b-que aholic, honey coated cashew aholic. I don't smoke or drink. A girl has to have vices. I'm into milk chocolate not dark. Especially the ones with caramel inside.:D

Sex? Now we're talking about sex? *Roars with Laughter*

As for is it good for you or not...Wait, soon they'll say Vitamin C is bad for you. :D

And what about people that don't have teeth? Can they eat apples or does it eat out their stomach lining?

 I heard that eating chocolate temporarily satisfies your craving for sex.
About apples and stomachs...I can tell you that any fruit or anything containing acid is NOT recommended for people who suffer from stomach problems especially if someone has stomach ulcers or acid reflux!!
Hey Wanda..there are ways around that!! :D Given their not as much fun but...they'll do in a pinch!! I better get back on the subject of food!! I could get into lots of trouble with that other subject!! (Hoping I haven't already opened mouth and inserted foot!!)

You gals are bad:) ( laughing hard) sex, red wine and dark chocolate, AND... Adrian on the brain... Well, in general I believe all is okay as long its in moderation..... except sex. Also, someone said something about suger free stuff causing headaches, all the chemicals in suger free are not good for you, aspertame, I was told causes depression and mood swings, and margerine is one molicue away from being plastic, my naturopath said eat real and natural, but in small amounts. all the fake stuff is just chemicals. I love the store Trader Joes, they have a wonderful selection of organic, excotic foods. ALOT are even gluten free, and brown rice pasta is wonderful, no wheat or gluten. They also carry some of the best dark chocolate (organic) I've ever come across. I wonder about food, and all the junk in it nowadays, being the culprit behind so many chronic diseases, such as Alzheimers, in Mexico, and other less industrlized countries, its not really common, I believe the lifestyles demand more exercise, and the diet is simple, though I suppose this inpoverished lifestyle brings about other catastropic problems.

JustBecause
04-08-2008, 06:36 PM
I agree hcla about the additives in food. Wouldn't it be great if all food could be additive free? I also agree that some who have an additive free diet may be at risk in other ways. I have hope though that through participation in organizations such as PEACE, we can affect the lives of children at risk for the better. It's a long, hard road to 'better' worldwide, but I truly believe we can get there.

So... back to chocolate... There's a bakery near me that makes this sinfully yummy dark chocolate truffle cake. They describe it as "A must for chocolate lovers!! Made with three layers of dense sour cream chocolate cake, filled with chocolate ganache and topped in rich chocolate truffles." Doesn't in the least describe what it really tastes like. Indescribable! My daughter and I visit the bakery for hot cocoa and coffee and to yum our way through a slice of cake. One of my guilty pleasures. Hubby says he thinks I'm wa-aa-ay to fond of it. Truffle cake or sex? Truffle cake or exercise? Hmm... choices, choices...

hcla
04-08-2008, 07:05 PM
TRUFFLE CAKE.... The decision is easy :D

MeridianXO
04-08-2008, 07:45 PM
My dad's a truffle-holic. Me? Not so much. When I just tell my blood sugar to 'turn around for a sec', I sneak a piece of chocolate or two. But, I never could stomach truffles. And I never could eat just plain chocolate (Although, I make the best and messiest chocolate cake around :D). It has to have caramel in it. When it has caramel, I sometimes tend to go a bit overboard (And pay that price later stuffing proteins and a few carbs into my body to get my blood sugar back up *Sighs*).

As for the sex and red wine, while that does sound good as a title for something, I think I'll refrain from commenting on it, other than to say, "Yes, red wine does tend to lead to sex if you drink it in excess." :D

Hey Coco if I could go get those things without blushing I'd been there. But hcla I'm with you on aspertame. I hate it. But I love chocolate period. As for the wine, a bottle last me a year and a half. I end up pouring some of it down the drain because it goes flat. Truffles I can take or leave. But for those who are coming to Detroit in August, you have to go to Greektown. In the shopping complex, there's a place where they make the fudge right before your eyes. It tastes great. I know I need to cut down on sugar big time, because I believe I have a second person following close behind me.Wearing the same clothes and everything. We are so busy looking for other stuff in our foods (remember a few months when the woman found a mouse head at the bottom of her can of string beans) we forget the chemicals.

ROFL HCLA!! BAD?? US??? :p YEAH!! But you gotta admit..we're REALLY GOOD at it!!
Just Because, I am with HCLA on that cake. Give me the cake hands down cause I'll work it off later with my favorite form of exercise.
I agree with you all about the chemicals that not only go into food but everything else and we don't get told about it until after the fact. It also upsets me with all the different drugs and chemicals being given poultry and cattle and just about everything prior to slaughter. Even seafood isn't safe anymore because of the mercury and other stuff. I won't eat oysters at all. But my mom worked in a seafood house where they put the oysters in a huge vat and then pour a gallon of bleach in them. That same beach area gets closed every few years for having so much fecale matter in the water that it contaminates the oyster beds and other seafood.
My mom and my hubby's dad both died from diabetes so I understand the need to watch what you eat. I cook healthy but the snacking at my house by the rest of my family is rediculous. My downfall is Mountain Dew, Capn' Crunch, and an occasional piece of chocolate.
Wanda, I have actually opened a can of asparagus and found a rusty broken screw in it!! If you eat pickles DON'T visit a pickle factory!! You will never eat another one.

(Pssst..Wanda....you can order those items online and they will be delivered in a plain brown wrapper so you won't be embarassed. OR you can have my hubby!! He's a royal pain in the...!! :p I could even throw in a hundred bucks and a sympathy card. The hundred bucks is so you can take youself out to one last really nice dinner out!! Oh yeah ..his snoring sounds like a pack of lumberjacks at a chainsaw convention. And doesn't believe in doctors or medication. He just whines instead. AAHHH to be single again....no one sitting around griping and groaning all the time. Just peace and tranquility. )

Hey Coco I know. There's an informercial selling them too.:o Expensive little buggers, or should I say big buggers. Stop messing with hubby. You can even send him c.o.d. I'll still take the money. As for his snoring, I can't complain. I can be asleep with my eyes open, watching t.v. and hear and feel myself snoring all at the same time. Then I can tell you what was on t.v.. Scary isn't it. As for the food, I never eat things straight out of the can anymore. I use to eat pineapples out of the can. I'm a diabetic also. I eat everything I'm not supposed too. That Capn' Crunch you mentioned has been my dinner for the last two days. My mother and I have to really force our selves to eat, because we are tired of eating period. We've had everything. All the fast food restaurants and there are a lot by our house. Can't swing a cat by the tail without hitting one. We know the shelves of our grocery stores by heart. We are tired this food and that food. That's why I'm having cereal for dinner. I love seafood. They tell us if we can to get our fish from Canada. All you can really do is pray your food don't kill you.;)

Everything in moderation folks:D I simply cannot think that God would put such delicious things on this earth just to torment us by it being bad for us!
Such things as chocolate, wine, fruits, breads AP---Uhhhhhhmaby not AP;)
can be enjoyed, unledd medically forbidden, as long as enjoyed in moderation--Yes???? Although it is EXTREMELY hard to be moderate when it comes to AP!:o

:D Appeace I agree with you that moderation is the key and there's just too much good stuff out there to miss sampling it all.
Wanda you sound like hubby and his mom. Both really bad about falling asleep while sitting watching tv. You tell them to get up and turn off the lights and tv and go to bed. They stop snoring and mumble they're watching tv. You ask them what's on and surprisingly enough they could tell you. Hubby's like Monk witha a bad attitude in overdrive with some Al Bundy thrown in.:p Together we now get along like the parents on Everybody Loves Raymond!
 OMG!!! I just realized my life is a sitcom!! I'm gonna need some serious therapy and a ton of virtual valium cause I'm gonna be seriously depressed...just as soon as I stop laughing about the irony of it all.
In the meantime...just throw me some chocolate!! Lots and Lots of chocolate!!!

Coco men have to be macho. It's their hormones. We ladies eat chocolate and everything under the sun. They become know it alls and manly. And one day I will master the moderation thingy. Just not right now. You are right, too many good things out here.:) About the sleeping thing, my mother will turn off the lights, but she can't turn off my t.v. because nine times out of ten, I'm sleeping on the remote, and anything else that just happens to be there.:D

I always envied my college roommate. She could sleep with the tv and radio going! Not me--any little noise wakes me up--
Seems I just get to sleep and the pic or song changes and that change wakes me, but I always wanted to be able to fall asleep with some good smooth music.
Im with you on moderation being difficult. The richer, darker the chocolate the better and natural chunky peanut butter, and ice cream---and, of course----AP:rolleyes:
Who can resist??????

LOL Well there's macho and then there's jack***! Hubby fits in the second category. Our latest clash was over the fact that when I did the spring cleaning we had approximately $1,000.00 of expensive clothing (mostly baby clothes), baby items like car seats, bassinets, high chairs..etc. I wanted to use the Mission Fish plan and donate most of the money to Peace. He flipped out. He wanted to throw the stuff away. I fixed him though!! I caught him busy working and loaded it all up. I took it straight to a shelter for battered women. They were thrilled. It seems that the economy causes a huge increase in spousal abuse. They had a full house and were in desperate need of the items I had to donate. So Hubby thinks they are in a dumpster and I'm happy knowing I did something to help someone who's trying to regain their life, especially the children who are biggest victims.
I sleep with the tv on sometimes. It doesn't bother me cause I rarely sleep for more than two hours at a time before waking up.
OK Back to food... my favorite ice cream is chocolate chip mint!!:p My favorite cake is red velvet cake. Not too big on peanut butter but I do like Reese's Pieces. But don't dare put a Mounds candy bar in front of me!! I'd be on it like Ms. Pac Man!! (Just dated myself didn't I??)

bryant.wanda

I'm not a big fan of peanut butter either. Have you tried Apple butter? My mother is on a Mounds kick right now too. And don't worry about dating yourself, I'm still on pac man and donkey kong. I can't stand these new videos. I really don't like the violent ones. They give me a headache.

I usually donate my stuff to Salvation Army, kids toys to Boys and Girls Cubs or abused childrens shelter. I just cant stand the thought of putting together a garage sale especially when I know there are some folks out there who cant even afford to buy things at those prices.
Hey--who said pacman and donkeykong were OLD?????? I was around when computers were still top secret military items!!!

MeridianXO
04-12-2008, 06:59 PM
Haha...You do realize that there are new versions of PacMan and Donkey Kong out there, don't you? My kids, the other day, said to me, "Mom, that's Diddy Kong." I went, "What's a Diddy Kong?" And they go, "That little guy right there. That's Diddy Kong." And I went, "From what?" And they go, "Um, mom, don't you play Donkey Kong?" They then gave me the whole history of the Donkey Kong family -- apparantly there's a blonde in there somewhere, too. What happened to the days when Donkey Kong was a bad monkey throwing barrells at you?

As for Apple Butter...I used to make it with my grandmother. *Sighs*

Does anyone here do 'canning/jarring' anymore? Remember when that was fun? *Haha* I used to love watching my grandmother do it and she would spend countless hours lecturing me on how to get the air out of the jar for sealing.

I mention any of that to my friends and they just go, "Uh, yeah. Like we really need to 'jar' shit."

Oh yeah. We were talking about bad habits, weren't we?

The only bad one I have in regards to food/drink is caffeine. I totally can't get away from it. I had it in the bottle, I swear. As far as everything else (Chocolate/Caramel/etc), I've never had a problem weening myself off of it. Now, if it could just be that easy for those other pesky bad habits I have away from food and drink. :p

Yup--still remember the pacman sounds--Ackkkkk!
No, I never canned. My grandmother, from whom I learned to cook, gave up canning shortly after I was born when her pressure cooker exploded and she was burned. Not severely but frightened her badly and she never canned after that.
However, I do vividly remember making and baking yeast rolls and churning fresh butter from their milk cow with my great grandmother and is something I still do on special occasions! I can gain 10 lbs just smelling those things:rolleyes:
I learned NEVER to dip snuff from my great-great-grandmother----guess how???
Its amazing how memories can return from the mention of one thing!:D

Guinness Girl

I'm one of the relics that still does canning, although not as much as I used to. Tomato sauce, pickles, applesauce and apple butter and homemade salsa mostly. My family grew up on farms so it's in our blood and it just tastes so much better. I still make a lot of things from scratch too, noodles, pasta, breads, soup etc. I think a lot of the diseases we see now, especially the high incidence of all types of cancer are a result of all the chemicals and additives not only in our food supply, but our environment in general.
Also dark chocolate has been my vice of choice long before any of the reports on the health benefits. (But as with anything, in moderation.)

bryant.wanda

Dipping snuff is just to gross for words. We only had one family member who canned foods. We just stole from her. She's gone now, so no more canned peaches or figs. The only time I milked a cow was in elementary school on a field trip. My grandfather had bulls on his property in Alabama though. Store bought apple butter is good enough for me. (Sorry Appeace):D
As for men, It seems I'm living without for now. Like we said before there are ways around it.:D As for donations my mother and I both give to the Salvation Army. In fact I have some to give away now. We have always donated instead of having yard sales. That all started because my mother used to work for the Red Cross. My mother is the squeaky clean type person who believes it is better to give. So I have to watch her or I would end up naked. As for the video games, I like to stick to the oldies thank you. I still have my nintendo. (As for being around when computers were top military secrets, that's spooky)

:D Gosh...You all have no idea of all the happy childhood memories this conversation just stirred up for me!! Yep I've both had and made applebutter!! BTW goes pretty good on a PB&J when there's no J around!!
Snuff?? Gross?? TOTALLY!! But my grandfather broke me from the urge to try that!! He was dipping one day and I wanted to know what it was. He gave me some in my mouth. OMG!! I choked and tried to spit it all out and then vomited from it. Dad got on to Grandpa for giving it to me. Granpa was laughing his but off! He said "I'll bet she'll NEVER touch it again! Baby girl do you want some more snuff??"? I told NO WAY!! GET THAT NASTY STUFF AWAY FROM ME!!
I have milked a cow and drank milk fresh from a cow. Tastes and looks totally different!!
Canning?? Yes!! We grew most of our foods and canned everything you could think of!! For us that was fun!! My middle sis and Dad live next door to each other and share a garden so they do some canning and freezing still. She makes awesome blueberry and mayhaw jam!
I remember when computers were only used by Military and being discussed for personal use!! And my kids, hubby and I used to have video game marathons!! Any of you remember the "cheat" cartridge you could get for Super Mario?? It was the only way I could ever get through all the levels!!
I have issues with Salvation Army. They won't give anything to those who need it and have lttle or no income and they sell the stuff for what you can buy it new. I wanted to go the Yard Sale route but Hubby has ocd pretty bad and the tought of having strangers at his house or in his yard totally freaks him out!! YEAH MEN!! Yup coco--you hit the nail on the head! After pestering the devil out of nannan for a taste of what she had, she gave me a small piece:( Cured me of the habit real quick!--No smoking either!
OK Bryant--I resemble that remark!:D During the dino days when I graduated high School and college, we used these old fashioned things called pen, paper and books. My sister made the remark the other day the she thinks we are de-evolving! Back in the "olden days" to write a letter, one would get a piece of paper and a pen, sit and write the message, look over it, get an envelope, put letter in, stick on stamp and out to the mailbox. Total time 15-2 min. Total cost 5.00.
Now however, one must turn on puter, wait 10 minutes for it to boot, find email, type message, loose message 3 times, retype, spell check, send to printer, loose again a couple times, start over, print out, type envelope, stuff and mail--or email then one must contend with loosing the message again! Time about an hour. Cost 3,000.00. Brother, that sure was quicker and easier????????

I think I need some chocolate and a glass of wine!

I remember cheat cartridge for Super Mario. Like Hilandlas said the best things in life is Adrian, sex, and chocolate, in that order.:D My cousins mother-in-law dipped snuff. She had empty coffee cans all over the house and outside so she could spit that juice out. Growing up seeing that cured me of ever wanting to do that or smoke.:( I also remember snail mail. That's how I pay my bills. Don't trust the computer with that. I went to school to become a word processor. I graduated but I don' remember why I didn't go into it. (Old age is hitting me upside the head). When I was a child, when we ran out of pancake syrup, we used grape jelly. Also in Alabama we used to go pick plums of the trees and make plum wine. We made watermelon wine but we always got caught, because that made us pee to much.

I've also made wine and had a few encounters with moonshine too!!

I've also partyed in Dothan. I was really really under age. My family knows the police all over Alabama. Don't ask why. And we are old. You just forgot. Any way we used to drive down to the Gulf for fresh seafood. My mother used to ship me an my brother down to Alabama every single summer. Any way I also perfer champagne. We might have ran across one another and never knew it!! We used to sneak over to Columbia and buy our fireworks. Also partied at the covered bridge in Columbia. (Yep I was a tyke then too but had older bros and sises who turned a blind eye.) But we didn't get into trouble the way kids do now. Everytime I hear the song "Chattahoochie" by Alan Jackson it reminds me of those years. It is so on target about about how we grew up. Makes me grateful I grew up during that time and not now.
PC sure was different back then too wasn't it?? Now it's all sea walls and Condos!!
We haven't covered white chocolate.... I love the stuff!! Ever had a ZERO candy bar?? Oh and I've found a new sin. It's called "PUFF CORN" and it's made by Golden Flake. It's baked corn puffs that taste like popcorn but without shells and husks. Comes in buttery plain and cheddar cheese.
I'm a nibbler!! Started out doing it to keep the blood sugar regulated. (Hypoglycemic). Now it's mostly so I can sample goodies.
Speaking of goodies .....How about those new AP pics at the site?? I just love pics that have a natural look and feel to them.

We might have ran across each other. We hit night clubs legal and other wise. I started going when I was 12 years old. My aunts and uncles are just a little bit older than I am. I have no idea where my aunts and uncles got the fire works from, but we had bags and bags and bags full. I love white chocolate. Especially this one candy bar by Herseys. I've heard of the candy bar called ZERO, but never had it. I've never heard of Puff Corn.
Those new pictures of Adrian is adorable. He looks cute and cuddly.:D I saw the episode of his when he did Murder She Wrote tonight. I taped it. He looked so cute, flash me some dimples and pouty lips and am done.:p I've been looking for part three of him at his new apartment. I've looked on you tube. Can't find it. Found a lot of interesting things he's done. Like accidently hitting the lady in the face with sword. I would have sued. I would have told the judge (I don't want any money. He'll have to pay me in kisses) Yeah that sounds about right. He would have to give me kisses for the next five years at least.

Ok, How about Dark Chocolate and Adrian Paul Together. (Just to Clarify: I don't mean AP covered in Dark Chocolate). ;)Although, come to think of it, I would eat Dark Chocolate off AP any day.

Sorry, couldn't help that image! Husband is out of town on business and no one to play with.

Anyway, Everything in Moderation is Great, but somethings like AP you just can't get enough of.

:DWelcome Little Devil. I totally agree with you that most things are good in moderation but there is no such thing as too much AP. I like the way you think about chocolate too!!:p
Wanda part 3 is on the VEOH link I posted on page 1.
Dying to see part 4.
I was about 11 at the time we were roaming around Alabama too so you and I are probably the same age. Ever hit a nightspot there called Pandora's Box?? Saw Walking Tall at the theatre in Dothan and caught a Grass Roots concert there too. If you head back this way you have to try a Zero. It's even better than the white Hershey's bar.
Appeace I would have been excited just to have his sword hit me. (I'm crazy like that!!) Of course being my devilish self I might have pretended a faint just to check out his CPR skills to see if they are current of course!!

Hi Little Devil. Good taste in men and food. I couldn't tell you the names of the clubs to save my life now. Just saw part 3. A little disappointed. And stop that, he has to perform CPR on me first.:p The only problem is if I can get back up. I want everybody to know that since this thread started I've gained a few pounds.

Part 4 is up on Veoh now for anyone who wants to see it. Again, no Adrian...No Alexandra, for that matter, either. But, you do get to see how the place is coming along. :)

*Laughs at Coco* Yes, CURRENT CPR skills are an absolute necessity, aren't they? ;)

As far as Adrian dipped in chocolate...I'm afraid the poor man would just have to remain sticky. But, looking at the brighter picture, I'm sure chocolate is another one of those things that can be used as skin treatments (Like sugar or honey facials you get from a spa), so in the end, it'll be good for him.

CPR wouldnt be any fun if his training is up-to-date as the newest training revolves around chest compression only--no more mouth-to-mouth:mad:
Think Ill stick to the "kiss it and make it well" scenario--then fainting and have another booboo to kiss--and faint again--OH WELL you get the idea:rolleyes:

:D ROFL. After this conversation I'll never be able to view chocolate in the same light again.
I was watching CSI New York tonight and it was an episode where there was a fasion show and the outfits were made with chocolate and there were chocolates being passed around every where. They even had strawberries dipped in chocolate and champagne!! And instead of focusing on the chocolate ...all I could think about was...This would be so much better if AP had a guest appearance in it!! I'm so ruined!!:p
Not to mention I think I've put on weight just thinking about all this chocolate!!:D

But hey, If I ever had the chance and AP was a willing participant I would. I could bet every woman here probably would. It's just too bad he's not single.:(. He is so Delicious! Anyone know how serious AP and Alexandra are? They could have some good looking kids.

honestly, is'nt that wonderful, they look beautiful together, and should be so happy, however, if they marry.... well that seems to change the dynamics of a relationship, and might would ruin things, I can think of more then a dozen people, and countless celebs that marry, even after years of being together, and when they do it , the romance is over. It seems to me, last I heard, Goldie Hawn, and her life partner, Kurt Russell are still together. Anymore, nowadays marriage is too much of a risk, weather its the family buisness, or Highlander royalities, its a mess to get out of when one decides they don't love you anymore... it seems better when the couple have no reason to stay together other then love and friendship. I'm still trying to figure out the whole Paul McCartney thing... gees do people actually get married just for a payday. I hope that whatever is in Adrians future, its a blessed and peaceful one, and may the woman he chooses be very good to him, even on those grouchy man days.:)

Littledevil
04-21-2008, 06:50 PM
Well I can still Dream about him, even if he is happily with Alexandra. They do look good together and if they had Kids they would be so cute. I justed didn't know how long they had been together. Hell, his wife during the Highlander Series, just looking at a picture of her, i could tell she is a bit of a B*tch and wasn't right for Adrian. She looks stuck up. Adrian I think likes more down to Earth women.:)

hcla
04-22-2008, 12:39 AM
Well, I'm not sure I want touch this topic, :D But little devil you do make a good point, and even a better question, I often wondered about his first wife, but felt guilty because he's so private, I came up with the conclusion that He's sort of honorable, has some values and morals, and mabe he did'nt like the fact that she insisted on bearing it all to the world, and mabe she got a buck or two off him.... gosh I don't know, anyways I once asked my all knowing aunt if she thought really good actors play their parts, or if , like in the case of Highlander, they do the part, immortalize it, because the character is actually part of their personality, its not hard, because it s them being themselves in a sense. My aunt said that the actor is good, but with Highlander, Duncan is Adrian. I guess I'd better clarify, Adrian is'nt a good actor, He's PHENOMINAL!:p

04-22-2008, 01:15 AM
Wow, that was a Good Mouthful HCLA. I bet a lot of people think that way. I feel the same thing about Adrian that he is honorable and like you said Duncn is Adrian. They are apart of each other. I really feel that he brought to Duncan Macleod the kind of man Women can usually only dream about. I mean in the Honor, Values, Passion, Sexy, Funny, etc. Just absolutely Perfect. OK Sorry I'm rambling, iu get that way after a couple glasses of wine. I'm such a light weight.

I've dodged that bullet because of the men I meet. But back to Adrian. Was his divorce messy? All I know is that he said that they grew apart because of his traveling and that she got his animals. Any way I would give marriage the old college try. I think it's sad that some actors and actresses meet on the set, get married and by the time they make the next movie, they fall for the next co-star. Little Devil you are not the only light weight. I can't have a full glass of wine without falling asleep. If I do make myself drink a full glass, then I have a glass of water with it.:p Sad  And lets just say Alex might be one happy lady in the bedroom. ;) Yep Tina Marie that's what they say. But many doctors privately refute that claim. I wonder if the mean that chocolate in it's most purest forms is what is healthy?? You know..like before you add the sugar, milk,etc... to it.
My mom used to make a chocolate pie with the pure cocoa and add milk eggs and sugar with it. Then cook it on low heat until it thickened. Then she'd pour it over a graham cracker crust and add a meringue topping. Then bake it until the meringue was lightly browned. :p I've tried making it myself but it still isn't as good as hers was.

Even when I was a youngster (I know--back in the dino days:rolleyes:) seems I had to work out 3xs as much and eat much less to loose the same weight as anyone else. I did have a dr do a complete workup and found out I had borderline hypothyroid but the dr wouldnt put me on anything for it due to it being borderline. Other than that, dr said I had extremely slow metabolism. Perhaps thats why, even though I am 3,0000lbs, I have no high BP or kidney trouble or heart trouble?????? Who knows:eek:
However, totally giving up dark chocolate is not an option!
A bit of friendly advice. Watch the Hersey products. I read a report that Hershey petitioned the FDA to add animal fat to their chocolate so that it is cheaper for them to produce which negates the health advantage of dark chocolate and Geridellies is a brand of Hershey.

I like your philosophy Fi, Chocolate in both hands. No one wants to admit their weight. I weigh 147, which doesn't seem like a lot, but on a small frame it is. Hell, I was a ballet dancer when I was a teenager and even after I stopped dancing I still didn't put any weight on. I didn't even break a 100lbs until I have 17. Too bad those days are over. I didn't look anorexic either, healthy looking. Most of my weight I carry in my butt and thighs, so I can relate. I have a plan though. My workout plan is a combination of Hip-Hop or Latin dance moves, Cardio on my glider 30min & 30min with strength training, or Yoga & Pilates. I pick one of those options and do an Hour of it. This way I wont get bored and quit. Keep in mind I just started this routine a week ago, so we will see how long it lasts.

Dark chocolate used to be my favorite until I went with a friend who drove over the road 18 wheelers and he had a delivery in Hershey, Pennsylvania at the Hershey plant. I guess the dock workers always manage to have at least one pallet break and the damaged boxes get divvied out amongst the workers. My friend had a friend who worked the docks and he gave us a bag about the size of a lunch sack filled with white chocolate. The real thing tastes so different from the commercialized candy bars. It was in large chunks and it would melt in your mouth. It was so creamy and smooth....and the most decadent thing I have ever tasted. So now real white chocolate is my favorite.

Sam

 You guys are gonna love the irony in this one!! I had Friday and Saturday off. Only babysitting the grandkids for my grandson's baseball game...Any how... Hubby insisted I join him Saturday morning to attend an auction. Seems a friend asked him to be a proxy bidder for him. Guess what they were auctioning off??? :D That's Right!! Heavy moving and land clearing machinery!! I walked up to a front end loader and said, "Well Big Boy if this is what you have in mind for my next new car then you better get a winning bid on that!!" I was pointing to an ambulance...cause he was gonna need one if he gave the wrong answer!! ;)
Here's the deal though...my MS seriously limits the amount of exercise I can do. I'm pretty much limited to a small amount of stretching exercises and short walks. See the more I move and exercise the more heat from the friction builds in and around the places affected by the MS. So too much and I'd end up crawling around or in a chair. Not how I want to spend my time.
So I eat one meal a day in the late afternoon. I don't usually have much of an appetite. But I have really been craving chocolate like a mad woman lately.
I have a thick waist and a big butt. Whenever I do manage to drop a few pounds I start looking like toothpicks sticking out of a watermelon. And worst of all the twins start shrinking. Now the twins don't need to go either way.
Yep my body did start going to pot after the second child!! I was a size five until I was in my seventh month of pregnancy with my first but lost all the weight. After the second..well I did make back to a size 5 but that's because Hubby and I were on a split and I took caffeine diet pills so I'd have the energy to keep going. But it reached the point that I couldn't eat or drink any thing so I had to quit. So I too am in a size 18 and at just under 5 foot 2". Which isn't good.
BTW I love the philosphy of a chocolate bar in each hand.

That is just it. We all want what we can't have! There was a gorgeous guy that lived two doors down from me when I was a teenager. He was about 4 years older than me, but so hot!!!:D.... Picture this. 6 foot, Italion, Nice tan, Dark hair, well built but trim, and green eyes. I had the biggest crush on him for the longest time. I wanted him so bad, but I couldn't have him. And don't think I didn't try because I did. He was involved with someone already and I believe he eventually married her. Just a little too late. :(

It's the same thing with Adrian. We want him and for him to want us. Alexandra is a very lucky women, hope she can hold onto him, because I will be right there waiting to snatch him up. Older men are so much better than the young ones.

I only know three men that fit that description. First one was my teenage crush (George), Second was Adrian Paul on Highlander, and third is my Husband. I like tall, dark, and gorgeous. Got all that and I am a gonner.

Couldn't have the first two, so i guess I had to settle for #3. Or is it third times the charm? ;)

BTW... I really wanted the above qualities as well as the man being Scottish, since that is part of what I am. But I ended up with a Russion, Lithowanian, German, & Irish mix. :p

:) I get what you all are saying. Yes some women get VERY ugly when they feel they desparately claim a man or hang onto him. I'm not one of those. If it's meant to be then it will be. He has to be with me because his heart wants to be. If that feeling isn't strong enough to hold him to me then there isn't anything there. If there's nothing there then I don't want him. Yes Alex is a very lucky woman and a rare one at that. I don't know many women that would be willing to share so much of the man she loves as well as give up so much of her own privacy just to make him happy and to make us happy. All though I envy her she has my utmost respect.
I think we all loved Duncan because he was the kind of man every little girl dreams of and the guys want to be like!!
Why do we follow Adrian and his career?? What's not to love about the guy?? Even if we aren't his mate for life we still have special meaning in his heart and life and he does so in ours. He's such a talented all around great guy. And fantasies are a natural part of a creative imagination and this is a creative group. Just IMHO.:)

bryant.wanda
05-09-2008, 06:13 AM
I couldn't be with a guy if he wasn't 100% into the relationship either. I'm not the kind to do any thing to hold on to a man if he wants to go. There are women who would do anything. A couple of years ago, I was over to a relatives house when her next door neighbor's husband came out the door with his suitcases trying to leave. Well the wife was begging him not to go. The man got into his van and started the enegine and was driving off, when she jumped onto the vans passenger side door. He ran her into a pole and cut off her right arm and right leg. In front of everyone. After she was released from the hospital, she went right back to him. She blamed it all on herself. She ended up pregnant with his twins. As soon as she had them, he took her to court for full custody of them and won. Now he's raising them with his new wife. That is too crazy.

Im with you folks. If God has intended a mate for you, he will love you for yourself and you will not have to "hold onto him" for dear life because with you is where he will WANT to be.
Adrian is a man who garners the utmost respect from me. His talents, both on screen, and off are not only breathtaking but genuine. The fact that he is willing to put those talents to work helping those in need is the thing that endears him to me. He never asks for accolades or expects recognition and always seems to appreciate the things his fans do or say to show their appreciation, thereby creating an atmosphere of friendship with his fans.
Alex, is indeed, a wonderful lady to deal with us "crazed" fans and the demands that Adrians career and fans make on his and her time. Knowing that Adrian has a wonderful sense of humor, I can bet that Alex does as well and that she knows we are just a bunch of admirers who tease about Adrian from time to time but really are harmless:rolleyes:;)

I know. I had to miss a week and a half of school and work to be in court to testify. I did, but she refused to. They had to let him go. This is before the made the law, that if a police officer see signs of abuse, they don't need the abused permission to arrest the abuser and the courts can convict them without the abused say so.

bryant.wanda
05-10-2008, 08:21 AM
We didn't have those laws yet. This is just one of the cases that forced changes in the law. The women here would call 911 on their husbands or boyfriends because they were being beat up. As soon as the police arrived to make an arrest, the women would yell and scream at the police to leave their spouses alone. Even if they had bruises and were bleeding. There was nothing the police could do but leave. Even if the boyfriend or husband was removed the only thing the police could do was to take him several blocks, let him out and let him walk home to cool off. Some times these same women ended up dead. So they changed the laws.

I'll take a punch anyday over some of the other ways a person can be abused, at least thats something I can fight, emotional, verbal abuse can do a toatal mind screw.. not to mention the terror of being stalked and going years before someone will actually intervene. My ex terrorized my children and me before the law slapped him with multiple arrests, and a permenent stalking protective order, and was stripped of all parental rights...that being a damn hard thing to acchieve beings he had no history, was not a drug/alcohol user, and had personality to charm anyone and anything, the real sinker for him, was a series of mistakes, and one damn detirmined detective. The ex even had listening devices planted in my home, he mailed private photos/tapes to my friends, family, and my employer, that was the worse, I was so mortified when my boss called me in to human resourses, I faced down 4 supervisors, men. Once I gathered what was left of my dignity, I told them I thought them worse human beings for even viewing the items.,and not to bother firing me I was looking for a job when I found this one. I would go home and find my childrens toys broke and hanging from the trees. I went to hiding in womens shelter, my kids, a few clothes and my car, well my car was towed from the shelter, never to be seen again. Well..what does'nt kill us makes us stronger. The divorce...I walked away from everything, and my kids and I started over, even though the S.O.B,never worked for any of it, he mysteriously became disabled shortly after we we're married, s..t, I should of seen it coming, should of reconized it when after my son was born the ex took a liking to my best friend, my baby was'nt even 2 months old, and the ex was screwing my best friend. This womanizing cont., and he was so surprised and hurt...when I filled for divorce, and the true pcyco emerged. I swore I would'nt marry again.... I did, 7+ years later, and I swear, as soon as I do was said, it all has changed. I must have rocks in my head.

You have my deepest sympathy and strongest prayers, hcla. It is so very sad that an experience with one rotten person can ruin a life, but you are a strong person and you have your kiddos to think of and you can take control of your life! I realize it is very hard as my husband was very controlling at the beginning of our marriage and tried to used mental and emotional abuse tactics.
However, he made the mistake of marrying a woman who was in her late 20's, grown and independent. Therefore, despite having 2 babies, I kicked him out after 5 yrs and could raise my babies on my own even though it meant working 2 jobs. He finally came to his senses and realized that I didnt need him but was with him because I loved him. Believe me, this came after MUCH prayer and asking of guidance from God. But after he understood that I was NOT going to be bullied and trying to do anything to my kiddos was going to result in WW3, he mellowed out and realized that we could be a family and that I would do everything I could to support him and that I was not the type to seek another's company in my marriage.
Well--23 years later and we havent killed each other---YET:eek: No, Im kidding-- He is a hard working man, a caring father and a PROUD grandaddy. We have made it thru very tough times and know that we can count on each other to make it thru more, if necessary. I pray this same peace for you!

My goodness, I've not heard such encouragement...:) Strong I'am, abit confused these days, but I still get up and meet the day with the same love I believe in. My children are about grown, one will turn 18 in June, has already graduated, and my youngest, 15 in July.... He's got it all planned, he's gonna get his GED, and not waste anymore time in Highschool, boys turned into men overnight. One thing I know, is they both take after their mother, good men they will be. Brothers are cool, I'm so glad that I had boys, they always have each others back, not to say a girl would'nt of been nice, but I took care of that possiability. Two is and was enough. My husband does'nt like kids, and never wanted any of his own, I swear somethings wrong with a person that does'nt like children, I love and value them so much, and is why I decided to never have anymore. Anyways, I appriciate your feed back, it'll help me crawl out of this hole. Sometimes I think a wisdom light turns on when we get into our 30's, and after shooting for that elusive fairy tale for so long, one begins to think it flat does'nt exsist, I wish that light would dim a little, then I would'nt have to make s..t decisions again. I ask myself often...what are you going to do with the next half of your life.?? :o Mabe I'll go to Scotland, find the nearest kilt clad male, and solve the burning question/myth...DO THEY HAVE ANYTHING ON UNDERNEATH? ahh, fantasy is great!!

Remember how cheap I told you guys he was?? He took me to the race track. Seems he had free passes for the races and the pit area. It was pretty miserable for me until the sun went down....Any way I did end up having fun...of course it might have something to do with all that nitrous oxide I inhaled. But as soon as I get around to downloading the pics I'll post a link so you guys can check it out. Let's face it ladies men drive us nuts!! But for some strange reason they are a desired aggravation!
Now let's do some math...
If an ounce of chocolate on the lips = a pound on the hips then that = a truck load of chocolate I have eaten!!
But I can't be held responsible!
If I eat a piece of chocolate so I won't strangle the hubby everytime he aggravates me and he aggravates ...OH say a million times a day then that = a million ounces of chocolate a day...which = a million pounds per day on my hips....so therefore it has to be his fault!! If he'd aggravate less then I would need less chocolate and therefore the hips would shrink!! RIGHT???

Okay... I'm here and I have this massive piece of Chocolate cake... Its three layers, and is filled in beween each layer with the blackest, most rich dark chocolate I've ever had..I swear the frosting on this thing is 1-2 inches thick, and coated with shards of chocolate flakes.... Mmmmmmm ( licking the plate now):D I shall wash it all down with a glass of decent Merlot. :) HAPPINESS IS !

06-05-2008, 04:20 AM
Yeah...Appeace we'll all share, but I went for the left over cake tonight and hubby has froze it....so I tried to nuke it on defrost mode, now I have mouse..or pudding I haven't figured it out yet.:(:)

It is possible to suck it through a straw!!!:D

OH..by the way thats MOOSE, NOT MOUSE... NO furry creatures aloud in cake!

Sam
06-05-2008, 09:11 AM
SSSLLLLUUUURRRRRPPPP!!!
WHAT MOUSSE???
You can't defrost cake in the microwave chick. You have to sit it over steam for about three minutes.:p OR....You can run yourself a steaming hot bubble bath the relax in the tub with it while the steam from the bubble bath thaws it. It'll only take a couple of minutes.:p

Yep the bling is pretty cute but then I did pick it out....It's a tennis bracelet with a dangling heart on it.

deprivation is'nt always the ansewer.... moderation, like pick a day, and say this is my chocolate day, and look forward to that, otherwise you may load up on other fatty junk, sub- conciously,,,tring to curb a craving for chocolate.

Oh my, Little Devil. You have my support and sympathy!;)
Im sure glad you clarified, hcla! For some reason, I thought you said mouse pudding:eek: No, nuked cake is not good. Just set out and let thaw at room temp. That also gives you time, as Wanda says, to exercise, exercise, EXERCISE so the cake doesnt hurt the figure! Also the anticipation makes the cake taste better------REALLY

Im with you Coco, when I get a gift from the hubby, he just hands me the card and tells me to go get what I like. I know thats not very romantic but I dont complain because the last thing he picked out for me on one Christmas was an air popcorn popper--AACkkkk!

so are the hubbys around your parts the principal wage earners? Or is life a joint effort? I resent asking..so I've always been in the lead in this area..but was always a bit envious of friends and colleges whos husbands handled things. Its pretty good when the men are men and they take CARE of..so it would seem.

bryant.wanda
06-06-2008, 05:04 AM
Okay, hcla tell hubby to "no touchy the cake anymore." Give him a kiss on the forehead and send him on his way. I know what you mean about asking, but at the same time it would feel nice to be taken care of.

Wanda:D

Sam
06-06-2008, 07:48 AM
 EXCERSIZE!! BITE YOUR TONGUES!!

OH BOY you guys give Hubby way too much credit!! He paid for the hair to get done and that is all.
Daughter paid for the rest and she was able to do that because I save her hundreds of dollars each month taking care of her two kids so that she doesn't have to pay a Nanny. (A typical babysitter wouldn't work the ungodly hours I do.)
As for Hubby and wage earners......we've both earned about the same throughout the years but he spent his on his toys and mine was spent on trivial things like...rent, groceries, utilities, dentist and doctors for the kids...
You get the picture.
I don't work outside the home anymore because my illness seriously limits my ability to do most things that jobs here require you to do.
And the majority of men around here are like my Hubby. He holds the money and I have to argue with him to get the bills paid. He and my son have a business that runs from our home so in case I have to have their help they are close by. But like Wanda said earlier..they are like little boys wanting someone to mother them.;)

Littledevil
06-06-2008, 01:56 PM
Your not kidding about that coco. I am lucky to have the ability to stay home with my child. Hubby has a home based business which is great. The problem is he is a tight fisted penny pincher. Sometimes I have to argue with him to get money. He pays the mortgage and utilities and gives me money which I spend on groceries, Dr. stuff and misc. He has a fit if I spent $1,000 a month. For the fist time in my life I am not making my own money and it's been a little annoying, but I wouldn't trade it if it meant I couldn't spend the time I do with my son. I will go back to work but not untl he goes to school.

The other problem is hubby wants to be mothered and babied and then doesn't. Annoying.

hcla
06-06-2008, 03:40 PM
AHHH...those trivial things..its funny...a man will complain his head off... but he never stops to think about his favorite shampoo is always in stock, along with a hundred other things he uses everyday...I mean that new pack of underwear, those new socks did'nt get there by themselves..:D Oh, and the good meal he eats...howed that get there :) Little devil...you are very luckey to be at home with your son...enjoy every minute..I so wish I could have, one is 18 now, the youngest 15...those years fly by so fast. I missed alot.

Plain and simple, "men are the ones with PMS".

No, no. I think we have earned the right to be labeled the 'ones with PMS'. Yes, I said 'earned'. Besides, it makes for a really clever way of saying, "Leave me the f*** alone you worthless piece of S*** scumbag!" without being locked up into a mental asylum for two weeks out of every month. The hormones running through the female body at any given time emit symptoms of any number of serious health issues (Heart, lungs, blood clots, etc), not to mention the mental aspect of things.

Men are just babies, in general. It's actually quite amusing to watch at times. I just want to swat them like little mice sometimes to see if I can get them to run the other way in my little maze. :p

Heather ROFLMAO!!!:D So what you're saying is I should have used those two weeks every month to say what was on my mind and blamed it on PMS.

I totally agree with you all. But I can't count the times I've told the hubby I am just going to buy a rabbit and join a convent and be done with him!!:p

ok I thought I would revive this topic. The reason is because I just finished watching The Illusionist while eating some Hershey Kisses. I must say that this movie was great. It has nothing to do with Adrian Paul just the chocolate part. That was a great combination.

I`m always tempted by dark chocolate - and as you`ve been discussing before: it`s healthy to eat dark chocolate. And.....you are supposed not
to put on any weight when eating it ( at least I keep telling me that every time I eat dark chocolate, what is happening every day:D) and from my experience I can tell you :it works..at least most of the time:)

Good heavens, what sort f conversation have I walked in on?? I thought I was clicking on pounds for PEACE (which in spite of the name is NOT encouraging us to gain weight :() and I find this!

Hey, has anyone experimented with cocoa powder, Benecol and Splenda? I keep trying to make little fudge balls that will lower cholesterol, but I can't seem to get the proportions right. Heck, I can't even seem to get a decent frosting out of it.

Sam
10-06-2008, 04:27 AM
:D Sorry Coolwater can't help you there. I only use pure cane sugar or powdered confectioners sugar. I have used cocoa powder. It has a very strong, bitter taste so you don't need much. Most recipes call for a teaspoon...
I do make killer chocolate covered peanut butter balls!! I mix 2 cups of peanut butter with a cup of sugar and a teaspoon of flour. I buy chocolate almond bark and melt it in a double boiler. Roll the peanut butter mix into balls and stick a toothpick in each. Dip them into the almond bark and let them cool. Makes about 3-4 dozen. You can also do fruit and other things that way.
Quick and easy.
I have a perfect cholesterol level.:p

Alex I keep telling my doctor and my liver that it's good for me but neither of them will listen..
I'm supposed to stay away from all kinds of chocolate, nuts, anything with caffiene, and any meds that he doesn't prescribe especially Tylenol.

brilliant!MacLeod
10-06-2008, 05:42 AM
Coco, I do not always listen to my doctor - perhaps this is more a kind of typical marridge problem ? We are not supposed to do all our husbands say.are we?:D
By the way, hubby is a chocoholic himself,so what can he tell me...:p

Littledevil
10-07-2008, 12:25 AM
Of course everything in moderation. Chocolate is my weekness, I just can't help it. If there is chocolate in the house I will find it. Doctors don't always have the right answers or know what is best. a friend of mine had a grandmother that lived to be 98 years old. she had chocolate and red wine everyday. She hated doctors too, at least according to my friend.
