In Our Hands

[JustBecause]

I'm in the smoky central valley, with fires to the north and west - the smog is so thick and close to the ground. The smell of smoke is everywhere.

News is on the TV about the floods in the Missippi River valley. I can't help thinking about those of us who must cope with loss or rebuild from far less than what we had before. So, I've written In Our Hands.

Earthquakes, hurricanes,
Fire and flood.
Wars raging everywhere,
Wasting innocent blood.

Are there any among us
Who can turn the tide?
Are we too self-focused,
Just along for the ride?

We can reach out to each other,
Or try to go it alone.
We can come together - heal our world,
Or let our hearts turn to stone.

It's in our hands.

Thats beautiful....with thunderstorms and lightening warnings here...in effect through sunday....extreme fire watch..we too may soon suffer what so many are trying to cope with...I will put it in his hands.

That's beautiful, JustBecause. You should try to get published. I've seen work not as good as yours on the shelf at a bookstore where I once worked.

Thank you destiny. We're safe from the fire in this county. People with respiratory issues had to be careful, though.

Renate, there were wild fires burning in the California counties of Humboldt, Butte and Napa last week, producing smoke that covered most of the central valley - including Sacramento county where we live.
