JumpCon cancelled. I have just received a phone call from Shane Senter advising me that the Boston Jumpcon has been cancelled. He added that he could not see any of the events now happening.

I have just spoken with Adrian and given him the news. Like many of the other guests, Adrian put his faith in Shane's promises and despite none of the contractual undertakings having been honored, he was determined to attend so as to not let the fans down who had also put their faith and hard earned money into the event. We had assurances as late as 12 hours ago that the event was solid and going ahead.

Adrian is already en route to Boston and has had to radically alter his travel plans twice already for Jumpcon with attendant flight penalties plus we have ordered merchandise for the PEACE table which is now sitting in both Pittsburgh and Boston! I myself was due to fly out in 7 hours from Sydney.

On behalf of Adrian we would like to send our deepest regrets to the fans who have shown such loyal support.

Someone has just posted on HLWW that JumpCon are saying that only Boston is cancelled however I was told that all were cancelled. All I can say is, with their first 3 conventions now cancelled, then they have a hell of a job to do with both guests and attendees to regain any confidence or trust at all.

I was told the same thing. ALL Jumpcons have been cancelled and they are in the process of refunding the money to everyone.

And if you go onto the Jumpcon website, you can't find Adrian's name anywhere. Plus they shut down the Purchase Ticket area. You can't buy anymore tickets for any of the other Cons.

So disappointing for everyone.

:(:(

That really reeks! Were there any stipulations in the contract with Ol' Shane about getting you all reimbursed?

There were the usual cancellation clauses etc but there will be a long line of organisations and people requiring reimbursement.

It's really a shame but now maybe many of those planning a Jumpcon trip can see about going to Indylander in Oct. Try to look on the positive side. There must be a reason for this happening. Maybe Adrian has a big movie coming his way that he needs to be available for. Roll with the punches and see what tomorrow brings.

Yes everyone stay positive.

I have offered to help anyway I can too.

Indylander is still happening and we are not going to cancel.
http://indylander.tripod.com/main1.html

I know alot were planning on going to Jumpcons this summer and fall. But stay positive and who knows what can happen.

Some are even changing their flights they booked to head to Indylander. Since they can't cancel them but can change dates and locations. So keep positive if you want a Highlander convention. Then Indylander is where to go. So keep this in mind as an alternative.

We do have more guest coming to our event too. We are at 7 now and a couple more on the way.

If you have any questions feel free to PM, email me or ask me. I'll get to it eventually. Having way too many emails with this all. LOL But I can deal with it. ;)

Everything happens for a reason so maybe that also applies here. Remember there is still HLWW 9 to look forward to now. :)

Just received this regarding a FAN CON in Boston this coming weekend for fans marooned due to the JumpCon cancellation and was asked to circulate it...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Randolph, MA. - July 17, 2008 - United Fan Con Inc., a small not-for-profit fan-run group located in Randolph MA, has stepped up to give the fans in Boston the fun-filled weekend that they were anticipating.

On Tuesday afternoon, July 15th, the Milford, NH based event promotions company, JumpCon LLC, cancelled a large Science Fiction / Pop Culture event scheduled for this weekend July 18th-20th at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. This is a second time in the last two months events like this have collapsed at the last minute, in June Fed Con USA in Dallas , TX canceled the rest of their show during the actual event itself.

United Fan Con has been producing fan-run events in Massachusetts for the past 17 years and knows when events are canceled like this it leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouths; it hurts everyone involved: actors, agents, hotels, other promoters and especially the fans. This time it is different, a lot of fans that were planning to attend the now canceled Jumpcon Boston have rallied together to put on their own mini convention. It started with online forum posts discussing the situation and then moved to the realization that many people were still coming to Boston regardless of the JC cancellation. These fans decided to organize and started planning a mini fan event. United Fan Con stepped in to help the fans make it happen, giving the fans the funds to rent space at a new venue and use of any and all equipment and supplies needed to host an event. In addition UFC is contacting actors, agents and vendors with the hope of making this an exciting weekend.

This Fan Con will be free to all attendees and include; games, videos, fan panels, auctions, vendors and more. The event will take place at the Hilton Back Bay, located at 40 Dalton Street, Boston MA (directly across the street from the Boston Sheraton). The event will run from 3pm - 10pm on Friday, 10am - 6pm on Saturday and 12pm - 6pm on Sunday.

Here is what is being said about the fans' efforts:
"It's really cool that you are trying to help these poor fans". Bob Catalano - Westland Productions.
"I hope you can make something happen with the fans, thanks for doing this." Julie Catlin Brown - Illumina Productions.
"How nice of you to reach out and see what can be done. We greatly appreciate your thoughts and willingness to try and make something positive out this fiasco Thank you". Erin Gray - Heroes for Hire.

What we need is you, the fan, to get the word out! Tell all of your friends and tell us how you can help. This is a true FAN CON!

If you wish to help plan this event please join us at

My understanding is that we will know more after Carmel meets with Shane (JumpCon owner/promoter) in Boston this weekend. She will update all of us as soon as she is able to.

Nora, thanks for the update. Makes me wonder if Adrian made it into Boston as well?

Not that my opionin matters...but when I first heard about jumpcons I did'nt trust it at all...I did not even care for the concept and said so on the group...I trust nothing that that does'nt have HLWW and Carmel behind it...this is really a BAD!!!! thing to do to so many people/fans...worse yet I bet Adrian is peeved...how dare jumpcon inconvience Adrian/GOH'S/ FANS...all the good people involved....On a different note, somebody had a really good idea on the group about refunds and donating them or part to PEACE... what a beautiful idea...take something bad and turn it to good...if I had purchased a jumpcon ticket and was fourtunate to get a refund..I would consider the money put to very good use giving it to PEACE. I hope this does not upset Adrian so much that he decides to not do anymore for HLWW. Peace still needs a platform.

hcla - I was leery from the beginning too. I've both been taught and learned from experience, that, "If it appears too good to be true, it probably is." Then, when I was purchasing my tickets, I was treated to Shane's "attitude" and became even more skeptical, thinking that the ambitious schedule of multiple events would be very difficult for a team of professionals to pull off, but darn nigh impossible for someone so ... uh ... ::: looking around furtively to see if it is safe for me to say this here ::: ... obviously immature and unprofessional!

I do hope people, you included, can remain open to convention experiences, even others besides HLWW, though admittedly, they are hard to beat! There's room for many kinds in this big world, and not everyone that runs conventions does a bad job. It would behoove us to take what we can from this experience and walk forward a little smarter and a little wiser, though.

Of course I am extremely sorry that Adrian and others were so bady treated in this instance, but I do sincerely hope, and strongly believe my hope is not unfounded, that Adrian is not turned off of convention experiences, even other than HLWW. I'm thinking he's a pretty big boy and has some pretty broad shoulders; in other words, I'm thinking he's a pretty resilient person. It's one of the many things I admire about him. :) What's that quote that was posted on this site somewhere... something like, "It's not how a person stands, but how they stand after they've fallen down (or been knocked down) and gotten back up again."?

Now to sort of answer Carrie's question... I don't know whether or not Adrian made it into Boston, but Carmel has told me that he is currently out of the country.

I was planning on attending the one in my state of Texas. I have yet to attend a con of any kind and this one was in my reach. Finally:)
I prefer to look on the bright side, maybe something better is coming along later.;)

Me too, Sekhmet!:( Next to not getting to meet Adrian, not getting to meet any of you wonderful folks, really breaks my heart. Oh well, so goes life, I am still blessed to be able to talk to everyone on line and, perhaps someday, we can get together and Adrian will come to Texas and we can give him a warm, welcome, Texas "Howdy!";)

Adrian said in his personal message that for those of us who didn't attend a JumpCon, he would see us soon.

Hmmm... I wonder what that means? :) Does anyone care to have a guess? ;) ...or if you could choose, what would you?
