No, honestly I was bored out of my mind. I was disappointed that his speech STILL sounded like a "vote for me" speech. I wanted to hear him tell us exactly how he plans to get our nation back on track instead of mentioning the ever tiring bit of how he's changed history just by being elected over and over in his speech.

I didn't have tears but my heart felt moved and happy. The speech was very good and well rehearsed. He is a very eloquent speaker.
The poem was lame. The music was great!

I thought it was great, CW - and all in under 20 minutes. Not enough time for me to get bored, DFQ. ;)

I was very moved, too. It was a great speech and a wonderful event!!
In Germany there is no such great celebration when our Bundeskanzler is sworn in. They just do their oath in the parlament in front of the members and the president. No poems,no music and certainly no party afterwards.
Our election campaigns are not so expensive and there is not so much show during the campaign and, most important at all,the spouse of a canditate is just decoration,of no real importance for the outcome.
The husband of our Chanceler Mrs.Merkel is never seen in public, some people even doubted that he´s existing(He is,he is a scientist, called Mr. Sauer and never appeared during the whole campaign-well,not that I can remember having seen him). But it simply doesen´t matter! I think that would not be possible in the US?

Phenomenal day. The 2 Million People who crowded into those 150 blocks (?) ...no disturbances! Only one small band of religious protestors from Kansas.
If we think that the ills of our nation are going to be solved by the snap of the Presidents fingers we are naive. As for learning about what is underway DFQ and all others this President plans on telling us what his plans are for 'our recovery'. All we have to do is listen and also go to the whitehouse.gov website.
I thought the party at the Whitehouse for the children was great too, while mom and dad were out dancing their new school chums were having a scavenger hunt in the Whitehouse! A young family living there. I like that idea.

Yes, maybe the speech was one of hope but I refuse to get excited till I see proof that he is actually working to do something. Here i am jobless, currently no jobs in my line of work in a 100 mile radius of where I live. I have only 8 months of being able to pay the rent and provide for my family after 8 months, if there are still no jobs in my line of work I am looking at losing my home and everything else that I own. It is imperative that the president focus on the economy situation for those of us that are unemployed so that we can get our lives back.
If that makes me sound cynical then so be it, but it is my life that I am talking about and I will not be happy if he fails to "change" the U.S as he has promised

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I've been out of work for 4 months because I moved to a house too far to commute. Now with hubby the only one working, things are tight. I hope the ecomony gets better fast!
My cousin lost her job and then her house already. She had to move 80 miles away to live with her sister. Hopfully she will be able to get a job and new start on life soon.
Hugs to you Dragon Farm Queen, praying for you too.

I'm sorry for these here and the thousands upon thousands who have lost jobs and because of the economic downturn cannot find replacement jobs. The job for this nation is not just in creating 'jobs' but stimulating the economy for creation of those jobs. It did not happen overnite and the remedy will take time, even years.
Economic stimulus is contingent on those members of Congress of which all of you have Senators and Reps. Congress has the power of the purse. Call um to act swiftly without ideological reservations but to think of the American People first. Obama had asked for that stimulus package to be on his desk by inauguration day. Shall we run a countdown as to when it arrives on his desk for signature?

Well, Scarpetta is right; we do need to badger our senators and representatives to get moving on a stimulous package, and to make sure that it bails US/us out and not just rich guys.
Big hug, Dragon. I just deposited my first paycheck in over 11 months. Miraculously my new job is in the field I trained for, and it has taken about 15 years for that to happen. I'd given up on that: my previous jobs have been almost what I'm trained for and were usually part-time jobs cobbled together to make full-time work at the same organization so they would have to pay me benefits.
Man, it wasn't until I wrote that down that I realized how peculiar it has all been! Anyhow, my point is that the good job situation can happen, and I hope it happens to you soon! And for Even, too! Amen!

Hubby wants me to get a part time job to help supplement our business a little. I don't think I could even get a job right now, with so many people out of work.
Odd how I am not hearing any news stories about how those illegal immigrants
aren't taking jobs away from American citizens. Wonder why?? After all they are only doing the jobs Americans don't want to do. Right?
Forgive my sarcasm Folks. But seeing so many jobless Americans and knowing how much of our tax money goes to help people who are in this country illegally....it just brings out the worst in me.

Seems to me that solving this problem would help solve many of our others. But that is just MHO.

How about the foreign workers that are here on H-B1 visa's? The dozen banks receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists. The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households. Associated Press article
Over 85,000 of these visas are available for Corporations to apply for. These foreign hires enable business to pay them less than US hires.
Perhaps this is a practice that should be curtailed, think? Or perhaps we all will be picking lettuce!

Meanwhile, I have to get by with a job that pays $20,000 a year and even then I feel lucky. :o

At my former workplace we had more Indian ( meaning from INDIA) people in the management positions than any other race or culture, while us Americans could barely get out of the10-13 dollar an hour positions.
One day there was a Indian manager who's office was right across the aisle from my cubicle. He'd been there for several months and he always looked at me like I was some freak of nature or something even when I was nice and would say hi to him. One of my fellow computer technicians did something really stupid and I went off on my co-worker about the issue and this Indian guy calls my manager into his office and informs him that he needs to do something with "that" woman because where he comes from she would be punished serverely for even thinking she could talk to a "man" that way. Now my manager was an American "white" man that had the gall to go off on the man about how this IS America and here women are not second class citizens and that if he wanted to keep his job and not be escorted to HR courtesy of him that he would never say another word to me or about me!
It was really depressing to see all these foreigners taking all the higher paid positions and we were the low lifes of the company, so don't tell me that they only take jobs that us Americans wouldn't do.

I know they come here in search of the American Dream, but sometimes I feel stepped on...hard.
Scarpetta I think it should be suspended and revamped so that they have to give those jobs to Americans. Then if they choose to employ immigrants they should have to (a Provide proof that slot could not be filled by an American and (b Give equal pay to the immigrant who is hired.
They are discriminating against Americans when they use their current hiring practices. They also paid BONUSES to the very CEO's who allowed the banks to fall under in the first place. Who in their right mind could possibly think that anyone of them deserved a bonus. A bonus is supposed to be a gift for a job well done. If the job well done was to put the bank out of business....then those bonuses were we deserved.
I feel violated as a person and as an American with all that I have seen. And to have our Govt. and news reports try to claim otherwise....adds insult to injury.
I have never allowed someone to pee in my ear and try to convince me that it is raining. And I'm NOT about to start now!

I would have kissed my manager on the cheek for what he said.

It disgusts me too, that bailout money has been used to give bonuses and buy corporate jets and luxury vacations on our tax dollars. Although I did like what I heard last night on the presidential debate. Pres. Obama isn't going to allow this misuse of our tax dollars to get bonuses and such.
