Well Carmel is being kept busy since touching down in LA and heading to the San Diego Comic Con. She has posted a wonderful little story about travelling to the Con. And while taking care of business and hopefully also trying to enjoy the Con she has sent along some photos taken today at the WOTW signings.
First is the story it is a must read, trust me on this
From Carmel:
Hi all
Just thought that I would quickly report in. Los Angeles was HOT!!! That
wouldn't have mattered all that much except for the fact that Adrian's car
has been sitting for months doing nothing whilst he gallivanted around other
continents and so it decided that it was not happy and as soon as Adrian
arrived back in LA this week from Hungary it decided that it was no longer
prepared to deliver a whole variety of normal mechanical services -
including air conditioning!
We were due to start Adrian's first session signing at Comic Con at 3pm
Thursday but repairs went longer than expected and we didn't get away from
LA until 12.15pm with San Diego some 2 - 3 hours drive! I had a rental car
which I had picked up on Wed when I arrived in LA and I needed to follow
Adrian down the Interstate 405 back to Thrifty rentals next to the Westin at
LAX.
"Stick close" were his immortal last words to me.witness an Aussie driver
who considers herself to be on the wrong side of the road on the wrong side
of the car attempting to stick like glue to Adrian's low flying machine as
he wove in and out of traffic jams and 6 lanes of traffic at the speed of
sound!! Men! I am not kidding - there were times when I reckon that I had
2" to cut in in front of various BMWs and other very highly priced cars!
I think that we did what should have been a 30 min trip at that time of day
in about 15 with me aging 10 years I suspect that there is a police alert
out for both of us. Well if I thought that THAT part of the trip was fast
you should have seen the LA to San Diego leg. At least I just had to sit in
the passenger seat with my hair on end looking like that picture of 'The
Scream' .windows down due to the lack of air conditioning ..have you ever
listened to the sound of wind when it is blowing through a car doing 500
mph?? Now add to that picture me attempting to eat some ridiculously
healthy item we'd grabbed..some tuna rice concoction which Adrian had
decided could be eaten with chop sticks. Hands up all those who have
attempted to eat grains of rice with a chop stick travelling at the speed of
sound - with the windows down..
As you would expect we made good time to San Diego but were still running
late - particularly when we hit downtown traffic (125,000 people are
attending this thing!!!)..I knew that John Farris was attending so called
him to see if he could meet us at the loading dock at the convention centre
and park Adrian's rocket..er..car.but John isn't getting in until Fri night
so (thank you John!) he gave me Andrew Modeen's phone number who rose to the
occasion and met us and took the car off our hands which meant that we could
quickly get Adrian up to the signing hall with all out our gear.
The organisation is absolutely superb - we had a team of Marines who were
assigned to us and everything went like clock work. As we got close to
Adrian's table we saw hundreds of people lined up and Adrian asked who they
were there for and was told "YOU!" - LOL!
We quickly got our stuff out on the table and spent the next 3.5 hours
meeting hundreds of delightful fans - most of whom had never seen Adrian.
Adrian has never attended one of these events so it was a very different
experience with a whole bunch of different fans. I must say that it was very
affirming for Adrian and Highlander - every person was so gracious and so
thankful to Adrian for his contribution to Highlander. We had people calling
their Mums saying "Mum!! Guess who I am standing in front of RIGHT NOW!!
ADRIAN PAUL!!" - LOL..
Adrian looked fabulous which was particularly infuriating since I looked
like something the cat had dragged in - there was no time to shower and I
still had 3 layers of storage shed grime all over me from my visit earlier
in the day to retrieve merchandise for sale. (yes we were supposed to get
into San Diego in time to freshen up.and one day pigs will fly.)
I'm sending Sue and Victoria some pictures. Adrian will be at the War of
the World Heavy Metal booth today from 1 - 4pm and tomorrow the same and
will be signing again on Sunday 11am to 3pm. Peter will be at the Heavy
Metal booth on Sunday from 1 - 4pm. I know that there are a few who managed
to get tickets so make sure you grab me to say hello.
It's wonderful to see so many people out there who truly appreciate what a
great show Highlander was and the efforts of all of those who worked so hard
to make it what it was.
Kind regards
@ Carmel Macpherson
