Default UK release of The Source

I already had the Russian and Dutch DVD releases of The Source, so even I felt a little obsessed buying the UK release as well..(I still like the Russian cut best ) but I must say it was worth it. The movie doesn't improve no matter how many DVDs you have and this UK cut seems to be the same as the US TV and Dutch edits. But...... this release was worth the money for the "Making Of" film in the extras. That alone gives me yummy new screencaps to play with!! VBEG

The thing I liked most about it was walking into Sainsbury's today to get my lunch and seeing it on the DVD shelf for sale - call me sentimental but its been a long wait to see it there!

It was announced the day before the London Con in July at Earls Court that filming was going to start in the November, then reading Adrians diary entries about the filming, seeing the promo at HLWW Leeds, all the kerfuffle when it was released in Russia first, its been a long time coming but to walk in Sainsbury's and see it on that shelf and knowing so much about it all gave me a bit of a thrill. Good or bad, no matter what anybody's opinion is about the film - its finally left the nest and its the final cut (or is it? LOL) and its ?12.99 (cheaper if you buy it online though ?9.99 and free delivery)

Okay, how many versions of this movie are there? I heard that the UK and US release were the same and that the Russian version was different. What about the Dutch? And where can I get the Russian version?

HI Heather,
There seem to be 2 edits of The Source. The original Russian release and the later releases in the Netherlands, UK & US etc. The later releases seem to be the same except for the extras on the various versions.
I got the the Russian release from the website below way back in Feb 2007. There is about 10 mins of footage that is cut from the later releases and certain scenes are in s different order. Also the voice over at the beginning is done by Peter Wingfield and not Thekla. I really do prefer it but it still isn't a good movie.

Ah, thank you. Now I have two coming. *Haha* I can just see the look on my room mates face when I go to buy the US release next month too.
I can just picture it now: "But, but, I only have one multi-regional player and that's in my bedroom. I want youuuu to see it tooooo."

~Heather

*Mumbles* Is it just me or are we all crazy for spending this much money on this particular movie?

I think we're all just sort of subconsciously thinking we'll get a regional copy that says "PSYCH!!! Here's the real movie!" *haha*

Now teensy spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet. Highlight to read it or you'll go blind:

To be honest, I didn't mind it so much. Not my favorite Highlander by any stretch (I liked 2 better) and it does kind of leave you feeling 'ick' afterwards, but, as a stand alone, it's fine. At least that's what my father said when he watched it. I guess I agree. If you've never seen a Highlander movie or episode you're fine with this one. My 15 year old didn't have a problem with it either. Except, and I quote, "This movie is kind of depressing". I also got, "Why is he fighting for mortality? Can't he just go and get his head cut off when he's tired of it all? It's much faster and less painful than dying of old age." Can't remember which family member said that, but, I found it funny. I have to agree. I found the prize much more appealing when Christopher Lambert was explaining it at the end of 1.

PS. We need a 'spoiler code' like they have on Laurrell K. Hamilton's forum.

The US release date is Feb 18th I think.
BTW did you try playing the Russian disc on your computer? PC DVD drives don't usually have the NTSC format problems that DVD players and TVs do.
